I would have to say it is your rear and not your tranny. When my rear went out, it would whine around 45 like a **** to the point where the car just wasnt driveable and then eventually the whole RPM/speed range withing about 10mins. When I left of the accelerator, the whinning would stop and when I got back on it, it would start again. This happened once you hit anything above 20mph. I had an M6 though. I've never heard of any tranny's whinning or humming so if your car still shifts smooth, I would lean towards the rear.

does it only do it while accelerating or mainting a speed?
what about when you get up to 55 and let off the gas and coast down?
if it stops as soon as you let off the gas, then its definitely the rear end.

It does it when reaching 45+ mph.i keep going and humming stays the same,if I let off while still in od,as speeds decrease slowly it still does it just much less ,but if I throw it in neutral it keeps doing it even thou it's out of gear.
