Also i wonder how much power the stock DI system will support before being upgraded, if at all.

And i wonder how hard it will be to crack the new OS.

Im really excited about this. Hopefully megasquirt comes out with a unit soon so people can do conversions easily.
I have an LT1 you can laugh at......

I agree though should've used LR1.
Ill give it a shot in my 93. Im sure that will go good when i say its just a lt1 car.

Don't like the fact that GM says it's going to be impossible to tune.
Don't like the fact it only makes 20 more hp. It should have been a 475hp engine imo.

Cylinder Head Comparison, looks like they saved a ton of weight here in the casting:

Notice the tri-lobe lobe on the very end driving the DI pump

impossible to tune? really? =/

In the event that the ECU is uncrackable, how hard could it be to piggy-back a stand-alone??

The GTR computer system has and enable "black box" type of ecu that was encrypted internally/ essentially it was a stand alone OS. Thus it could be interrogated until unlocked. This ECM makes the GTR ECU look like a calculator.

My suggestion would be for consumers if enough of them are wanting it to push for "Performance Optimization Services."

I have a feeling the finally output numbers will satisfy 80% of consumers.
Wait for it.

I'm calling 700hp aftermarket naturally aspirated after 3 years of this being debuted on stock cubes. Programming is trivial challenge that will be solved, but once we figure out how this thing ticks; it will skyrocket in terms of perfromance. It's a solid evolution of the already very powerful ls line. I'm not worried about aftermarket at all. Same thing happened when the ls came out. I want one of these with a new cam and headers in my t/a and see what happens.

Good morning to all,

I've addressed the piggy back or stand alone theory in another thread.
Long story short it isn't possible cost wise for the aftermarket.

So with no possibility of electronic tuning available does that mean everyone will just have to spray the **** out of it with a wet shot to adjust the tune? That seems like a stupid move on a car that most people will want to modify.

Spraying this engine wouldn't be ideal.

More precise fuel timing with direct injection makes tuning more precise and more difficult, higher risk. The physics of it is extremely complicated as it's difficult to model and predict when the combustion due to compression will occur. So right now, it's only feasible in a very narrow operating range.

The optimization is difficult and dangerous with direct injection, (YOUR SATETY MATTERS).
GM knows what it is doing.

Another very very big event will come forward to satisfy majority of consumers.
