Default DFW bird down =\

So my worst fears have been realized. Really hating GM right about now. Anybody know a good local place to get this mess fixed?

You ever plan on beating on the car again?? Like racing it or getting on it hard?? If so fixing it won't help it will break again..

I hate to be the bad news but that **** is a DD grandma motor now..

I broke the ear off a starter before and it's done for.

Welding isn't my forte... Would have to have someone weld it.
Or there's this;

The starter Bridge, but almost 400 bucks for a bracket?!

May just have to start putting back for a new block and build...

I would buy the bracket. Sucks to pay that much but I can't imagine finding someone to fix it will be much cheaper especially while the motor is still on the car. Buy the bracket, take the hit and you'll be driving it by the end of next week.

If you have a competent welder the weld should be stronger than the original material. You completely fillit in and redrill/tap a new hole.

No Biggie. If the broken ear is all you have. Just put a truck starter on it. The one with two long bolts. The one long bolt will hold it just fine. The bell housing won't let it kick out. Ran one for years that way. And have helped many people by telling them this.

That would be awesome if I had the piece of the block that broke off, but all I have is the starter. The welder would have to reconstruct that missing corner.

Inspector12; Tempting...

DPRock; Thanks, I'll check it out.

Tempting lol! Hey I'm just trying to help you. If you have a better more cost effective way of fixing it LMK. All the above welding it in place and drilling and tapping it will be very difficult if not impossible with out messing up the motor. Especially in the car. Its cheap and if that broke I'm pretty sure your starter lost an ear also, so your going to have to buy one anyway. GL!

Yea, starter snapped as well. I've already picked up one of the truck starters and I'm currently shopping for another long bolt (starters should come with em...just sayin). Eye balling it though, there doesn't seem to be enough thread there to actually hold the starter in place once it kicks over. I'm gonna crawl back under there after work tomorrow and mess with it some more.

So, I went out today to test fit the new starter (truck starter) and just brainstorm for a bit. I should say attempted to test fit the new starter. I know the original was a pain in the *** to get out, but I haven't found the sweet spot yet to get this new one in. I blame the headers...

I even pulled the dipstick tube out of the block and loosened the oil level sensor (won't pull all the way out, again thanks to headers). This gave me some more wiggle room, but not enough for this damn thing to fall into place. I didn't have much daylight to work with, so I cleaned up and came inside. Thinking I may remove that little piece of plastic that protects the flywheel tomorrow, ya know, just for ***** n giggles.

I'm beginning to think it may be easier just to pull the damn motor and be done with it. Just means I'd have to invest in a hoist, engine stand, etc...

i had to replace my starter(not cuz the tab broke) and the starter was kinda hard to get in. I did have the car starter not the truck one but it was awkward to get it in. have to wiggle it in but it does go in.
