A friend of ours works at a local news network we passed this info to him. Hopefully some one if not him self will pick up the story on this. Will post if he says some one is going to cover it.

Why would they not be that close, RPR does not own the property. No different that contractors building houses 10' away from each other.
The Angel Brothers also owns a very large concrete company, wonder what the people next to that plant thinks about them.
Regardless it sucks...

It does suck.
If it closes, where is the closest one now?

If it were to close, I certainly wouldn't be happy. Going to the NHRA Spring Nationals is pretty damn cool.
But, for local racing on Friday's, I've gotten pretty frustrated going to the track. The last three times I've gone, there has been an incident on the track and it has taken over an hour, sometime 2, to get going again. So, going on a Friday, pay the price for admission, get one run in and then wait forever.
The Fun Ford Weekend sucked, too. Got there and was 3rd in line to run and the track got oiled down. Waited 1-1/2 hours, then it started rain. Left after waiting another hour and not getting to run at all.
Also, they used to be open on Wednesday evenings for "trophy night" and Sunday's, but now just Friday nights. So, the schedule sucks for local racing, too.
That said, I still hope it doesn't close.

I don't get a kick out of the track the way I used to.
We used to go all the time, and now it's more of a chore than anything.
Lane management sucks.
Lines too long to race, spent all night there only to make 3 passes or so?

Drove by on the way back home Sunday, and there was a SUV sitting across from the track with a State of Texas seal on the door and a guy with binoculars watching the concrete pile. Seems the state is certainly looking into the deal. It will be interesting to see the outcome of this one...

I'm not going to lie, the track is overcrowded on Friday nights. Traveling 1.5 hours just to get 3 runs in for the night sucks. But, I'll take that over no track at all. It's overcrowded because it's popular. That makes it all the more senseless if it closes.
