Car got hit, need alittle advice
Sup guys, well unfortunately there might be another 4th Gen SS off of the roads. The car is a 2000 Camaro SS with bolton's listed below and 147K, paint is super clean. Last Sunday I was rear ended by a girl on her phone, to make it even more interesting was that she took off after it happened.
Wreck: Stopped at light happy as sh** because i just installed BMR springs and adjustable panhard bar the day before, car looked perfect (thanks BMR) when i look into my rear view mirror and see her coming. She wasnt slowing down and i knew what was coming so I took my foot off of the brake (M6 Neutral) right before she hit and then boom. Hit me pretty solid right on the license plate and the back left part of the bumper. This in turn pushed me into the car in front of me and my nose went up into the bottom of they're bumper and then they moved forward a bit (no damage to them at all). Wreck done.
So there was no center median in the road and we were in the inside lane, I couldnt get out to go rip this girl and new gina so i opened my door slightly and looked back at her, she was alittle rattled (dont care) so i pointed to the next intersection that was probably 4 cars up the road and she agreed to go over there. So me and the guy in front of me start driving to the intersection and we turn left to pull over on a smaller road and sure enough there she goes, I watched her in my mirror as she just kept going straight and took off.
I got lucky guys, a lady witnessed her drive off, got her plates and came back to us and gave them up. Coudlnt F***ing believe it, got her info as a witness and thanked her as I realized she saved my ***. Called the police gave them the plate and they ran her info, gave me her name, address, insurance company and policy number, then drove home. The car feels like it's fine, I wont lie the hit seems to have sealed some horrible Fbody rattles in the car
So now, to end this quickly, at first glance the you couldnt tell the car was in a wreck minus the paint scuffs on the front bumper and the bent in license plate and scuffs on the rear bumper but then I noticed the back driver side quarter panel had a crease in it right in front of the back driver wheel. Turns out the back left frame rail did buckle alittle bit and that back quarter panel had some ripples in it around the gas cap. The body shop said that there was some damage to the driver door and they wanted to replace the skin of the door as well. The insurance adjuster stopped writing his estimate up after they reached $8800 and just decided to total it out. They offered me around $6800 for the car with 900$ buy back option.
I'm about to submit 1700$ in receipts for recent work and parts for the car that have been done in the past 12 months to try and get that value up there alittle more. My question is, what would you guys do in this situation. If it's totaled and I buy it back, sell the motor/tranny I'll be in good shape to buy another Fbody and get my bolton's back. This is the way i'm thinking i'll go with it but I havent even explored the legal options of the fact she was a hit and run, I'm not injured and not really looking to go after bodily injury. Any help/guidance would be huge. I want to make sure I'm not missing anything in this deal. I worked my *** off to get into my dream car and worked my *** of doing all the work to it, dont want to miss any penny i can get back.

Back driver frame rail buckle, those two screws you see in the picture are from the previous owner drilling into the body to secure the T-top holders so this might give you an idea where that buckle is.

If u are really attached buy the car back and fix it man.. I know around the Houston area there is plenty of body shops that will replace a quarter panel fairly cheap.. I know of one good shop for sure that did some work for me. As far as the door goes u can find a replacement door cheap all day long..
This happened to me last year. Your situation is a little different in that yours is still drivable, But, IMO, turn in all you receipts, let them up you stated value, and let them take it. In the long run it'll be a better deal for you. Buy another 4th gen with what you want, or with lower miles, and get after it again. Or you could change platforms and vehicles.
Was thinking about stepping up to a C5 but iv'e got so many good parts on this car that are new I might as well just get another one and transfer everthing over and sell the rest. We'll see what they say when I give them the receipts and demand mo money. Just a shame that I'm losing this car due minor looking damage.

You are always injured until the shady *** insurance company covers your property to your satisfaction. Sometimes you must reserve all tactics just as the insurance company does.
I wouldn't fix it. You'll put a ton of money into a dent that will never be quite right. Plus insurance will be salvage title and it's already pretty difficult selling a clear title f body. I'd part it out
Thanks for the input guys. Been doing some thinking and I'm leaning towards buying the car back, fixing it and starting to save. The kicker here is that i still owe 2k on the car. I'll have to pay that off first and then take the rest of the money for repair. My only two worry's here are the cost of the quarter panel repair and the frame repair. The car means alot to me so i want to keep it, even if i didnt keep it and took all the money it would be hard to get into an Fbody like mine. Not apposed to doing the work again but I dont want to go backwards. It all depends on how high I can get the value up on the car.
Once i get it all back and payed off i'll just pay myself the car payment, insurance cost difference and as much as I can save for a year and then get something else. Guess i'll have a "beater DD" Camaro SS, kind of like the idea really.

Sucks to hear, I've been in that situation before. Definitely buy it back, you can easily get that much for parts. Since you're attached to it, you're going to have to have it fixed, then re-certified as a salvage title. The insurance company will tell you how to accomplish that. Just be aware, they're probably going to raise your rates for a salvage car.
