Kotzur racing heads seems to be the go to guy around San Antonio, but he tends to take forever. By forever I mean like 6 months to put rings/ bearings in a new shortblock that sat for 6 years. Needed nothing but just to check it out and make sure it was good to run. Three new bearings and rings in it for the headache.

Ive used "Jankes" also with good results. Run by old man Jankes but the shop is extremely clean, I only used him to mill my tfs heads down a bit and to clean up hone a ls1 block but his work was good imo.

I would not use Kotzur again. They just take too damn long to complete a job. In my case, 20 months for a cylindar bore and rebuild of my stroker.....went from 396ci to 398ci.

Go with Long's Machine or Jankes.

IMO, of course.

same story I hear from everyone that has used them in my experience.

Jankes had a super quick turn around for both my projects they handled.

I've used kotzur they're alright & expensive. Very long wait as others have said. I personally like to use mission machine. Reasonably quick, use proper methods & very fair pricing.

Heard great things about CTM also. My engine is currently at Millers Machine Shop on grissom. Owner seems like a stand up guy. A bit of a waiting game also. What turn around time did CTM give you blkbird?

I have it scheduled to be started late march early april. I think he said around 3 weeks. Im in not much of a hurry so that doesnt sound too bad to me. 383 is what hes gonna do.

3 weeks isn't too bad, I waited 5 or 6 weeks for a 6.0 to just be disassembled and cleaned at Miller's. It's because he does it by when you drop it off, thats what spot youre in. So you might have 2 jobs in front or 20. I'm really missing driving my car already though... .
I wanted to do a 383 also but new crank and rods is out of my range financially. So I went with +4cc forged pistons, stock crank/rods. Did ctm quote you a price? I probably should've gone with him but it's too late now

Youre right. Most of the cost is in the rotating assembly. Pricing for the labor is very reasonable. Ive had this block sitting in my garage for like 10 years waiting to get it done. I was wanting a 402 or bigger, but it all adds up quick.

3-6 weeks sounds leaps and bounds better than a possible five month wait I heard of from another machine shop that was recommended to me. What kind of prices were yal quoted?

I don't have a full quote yet for the rebuild but Miller's prices in general are very good. Crank polish is around $29 new cam bearings are also $29 plus bearings I believe. Crank cut $70 balancing $200. Those are just what I recall right now.

As I was looking around tech last night I think there is a difference in piston pin sizes that will force me to have to buy new rods too.... I hope not...

Labor was under 700 with clean, square decking, hone, bore and blueprinting and balancing(assembly). Parts is where all the cost is. The stroker kit is like $2700.

I was going to say the same thing. I’m going to look into both of these shops and maybe get a quote or just drop it off and see what they say about it.
