Default Poker?

Does anyone on here ever play poker tournaments? I usually have some of my buddies over and play for just a $5 to $10 buy in, but that hasn't been happening lately and I was looking for somewhere else to play. Let me know.

I am a member to partypoker.com and often play for fake money. I'm only 17 too. I was looking to play in more live tournaments, but thanks for giving the link. I will check it out right now.

We've been playing in Tomball. Just played Monday and Tuesday for the first time in Texas outside private games. Having a lot of fun. Buddy of mine turned me onto it. PM me if you want the details (location, times, etc.). They play Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, I believe. First night (Monday), placed 7th out of about 35-40 people. Last night, placed 6th (not quite in the money, but getting there ). I am hearing of a couple of other places coming on-line in Tomball in the near future. The place we play is no limit (tournament style), but one other place coming up will offer limit tables also.

My all-time favorite card game. Even if I lose, I'm still enjoying the ride (of course, I enjoy it better when I'm winning, but who isn't? ). We also play private games among my buddies occasionally as well. Got a game coming up Friday, in fact.

California made it legal because they deemed it a game of skill, not a game of chance, and was therefore not considered gambling. I'll bet it's only a matter of time before Texas does the same thing. It's ironic that you can't have Texas Hold-em card rooms in Texas. They're okay as long as the house doesn't get a rake (so watch out for places that do this - they're usually "back-door" rooms from what I hear and they are considered illegal).

That's no joke.

The only thing I didn't like about Lake Charles was the three-tier betting. Staying in for the river can be very costly, especially if you constantly get out drawed.

This is the type of place I play at. It is illegal to host these games, however, only the house will get in trouble. Players are at no risk. Also, these tournaments you're playing in, are they at a bar, or what. If they are, then they are illegal, did you hear about the place in Deer Park that got busted.

Im up for playing, Ive played a couple hold em tournements.
I used to play poker every Friday at a local hamburger shop. We played with quarters, .25 ante and $1.00 max raise usually. We would rotate dealer and the dealer would pick the game (we usually played 5 card draw, 7 stud, hold em, baseball, "mexican sweat"...) I liked this more than tournements because its more of a variety. Then only problem was picking a good stopping point. the quarters make it kind of fun and its a good money amount, after a night I might win/loose $5-$20.
Im interested in playing, let me know when and where
Kenny

Yes. This is my first experience playing in Texas, so I'm not 100% familiar with the various laws surrounding the game in this state. And, no. What happened in Deer park?

This would be a good thread to post all the gory details about what you can and can't do in this state regarding this game.

Its not illegal to play poker for money. As long as the house isn't taking a rake its legal. I live in DP and play poker here all the time. I haven't heard of a bust in DP. What happened?

Where I just started playing, it's a $25 buy-in, $20 rebuys (and you can have as many as you want before the break, but you must buy the rebuy tokens before the game starts), $20 add-on. You can cash your tokens in during the break if you don't use them. First night, I bought 2 rebuys and used one. Second night, I bought 1 rebuy and didn't use it. Both nights there were 3 tables with 10-11 players each. On the weekends, they run up to four tables and run more than one game. They pay up to 5 positions depending on the number of players. Monday, they paid 4 positions (and I was 7th ). Tuesday, they also paid 4, and I was 6th.

House doesn't take anything from the games. No money allowed anywhere on the gaming floor (not even to tip the dealers - if you want to tip, you can buy "tip chips"). So, by what I'm hearing, the games are legal there? I really want clarification on the laws because now I am hearing two different things. Where's Mildot or K9-guy?
