Got a game coming up Friday, in fact.California made it legal because they deemed it a game of skill, not a game of chance, and was therefore not considered gambling. I'll bet it's only a matter of time before Texas does the same thing. It's ironic that you can't have Texas Hold-em card rooms in Texas. They're okay as long as the house doesn't get a rake (so watch out for places that do this - they're usually "back-door" rooms from what I hear and they are considered illegal).

The only thing I didn't like about Lake Charles was the three-tier betting. Staying in for the river can be very costly, especially if you constantly get out drawed.

I used to play poker every Friday at a local hamburger shop. We played with quarters, .25 ante and $1.00 max raise usually. We would rotate dealer and the dealer would pick the game (we usually played 5 card draw, 7 stud, hold em, baseball, "mexican sweat"...) I liked this more than tournements because its more of a variety. Then only problem was picking a good stopping point. the quarters make it kind of fun and its a good money amount, after a night I might win/loose $5-$20.
Im interested in playing, let me know when and where

This would be a good thread to post all the gory details about what you can and can't do in this state regarding this game.
). Tuesday, they also paid 4, and I was 6th.House doesn't take anything from the games. No money allowed anywhere on the gaming floor (not even to tip the dealers - if you want to tip, you can buy "tip chips"). So, by what I'm hearing, the games are legal there? I really want clarification on the laws because now I am hearing two different things. Where's Mildot or K9-guy?

the only thing i know about poker is this: liquor in the front, and poker in the rear.
