Who builds the ultimate TH350 in Texas, preferably in the Houston area?
Thinking about converting over to a TH350 from my currenty 200-R4 and wanted to know who has a high reputation for building strong reliable TH350s? I would like to keep it local to avoid shipping costs, but if there is someone out of town (not within reasonable driving distance), then I will ship it off. I had my 200-R4 built by Mike Kurtz in the Richmond area and he is a well known 200-R4 builder, one of the best at that.
Also, is there a particular model or year of vehicle I should get a TH350 from or are they all the same? Reason I ask, is because on the 200-R4, there were certain models and years that were better than the other.
Lastly, I've run 2 different style of Yank converters and never had a problem. Should I stick with Yank for a converter for the TH350 or is there another brand I should consider?
Thanks in advance, any help is greatly appreciate.

You can't go wrong with Century or TransKing. They've both got a reputation for building very strong TH-350's.
As far as your converter goes, you might want to try A-1 or COAN. They are a little bit more expensive, but they produce some absolutely amazing results.

Jeramy,
There are transbrakes available for the 200 4R trannies. Mike Kurtz can tell you about them. I'd be a little reluctant going to a TH 350 with a brake. They are not any stronger than a properly built 200 4R. Now a TH 400 is a lot stronger and with lightweight internals, it can be made to haul ***.
If I were in your shoes, I'd spend the money on more gear and more tire. In my opinion, the TH 350 won't give you the return on your money like gear and tires will.

I wasn't aware that Mike built TH350s as well. Sweet. One of the main reasons I wanted to run a TH350 is I hear that having one built is half the cost of a 200-R4 built. So in the end, I might even come out on top with a little extra money. I'm not counting on it, but would be nice. I think I remember Mike telling me that there isnt a true trans brake for the 200-R4. We talked a while back when I was having mine done and he told me he went to a TH350 because he wanted trans brake. I called him today, but he was on a phone call and left a message. I'm sure I was on the phone when he called back, so I'll have to get in touch with him tomorrow.
KingCrapBox, what about ATI converters? A reliable source was telling me about that company and that a lot of people were using them.
Patrick G, what gear and tire do you recommend? Its funny, because I was talking to Jason at Thunder and he had mentioned talking to you about my situation. He said that you might recommend going with a different converter, like an 8" with a 5000+ stall on it. What do you think? He said since this cam shifted my powerband higher, that I would need to leave the line at a higher rpm because my power doesnt start coming in until later now. He also said gear and tire as well. Whatever the case, I want my car to 60 ft. in the low 1.4s possibly high 1.3s. This is what's in the air for me, convert over to a TH350 and sell the 200-R4 setup, get a high stalled converter, or just get a different converter for the 200-R4 and see what happens. Only thing is, I want to run trans brake which I've been told there really isnt a true trans brake for a 200-R4. Then of course stepping up gear and tire which not sure what I'll need.

Mikey will know for sure, but I don't think that Century will warranty a 200R-4 with a transbrake. I don't even think they'll sell you a 200R-4 with one.
A TH-400 is a heavy transmission and once you start adding the high-dollar parts, will get VERY expensive VERY quickly. You can spent $5,000 on a TH400 so fast your head will spin. Just check out the Rossler website.
Jeremy has a light car that doesn't make much too much power. IMO, the TH-350 is the best option for him.
I do agree though, a lightened 9" and some 29.5" tall tires will go a LONG way.

I'm not sure if they make a converter for a TH-350 but Neal Chance probably makes the best racing converters you can buy. I have their 4000 stall for my glide and love it.

Is it any cheaper to go through Madman on the Trans King trannys? So what kind of gear and tire combo do you have in mind? I want to be able to make it through the traps. I shift at 7000 with a 7200 rpm rev limiter. I'm gonna talk to Mike Kurtz tomorrow and see what he says. I'm also gonna call up Trans King and see what he has to say.

Run the biggest tire allowed by the rules (Which in your case there really aren't any), then put the biggest gear in the car you possibly can. Then of course you've got to have a good converter that works right with the gear.
