Default Beefing up stock rear?

Besides ta girdle what can be done. Im contiplating putting 4.10's in my stock rear. I broke the axle on my old ws6 but thats it. Are there not aftermarket axles for our stock rears to make them stronger. Wont be a track car. Just want them for the fun factor. I had 4.10's in my old 12 bolt and loved them. 1st and 2nd gear rolls were killer.

With the 8.8 the weak link is the 28 spline axles. Mots of the mustang guys just swap the 28 spline axles/carrier for some 31/33's and are done with it. Total cost of parts is about $400.

The strongest carrier you can get for the 10 bolt is the T2R (not the regular T2) and upgrade axles and a cover along with the gears.
So lets break this down
T2R-500 dollars
Moser axles-250+50 if you have tcs/asr
Gears-200
Rear end cover with studs-180
Driveshaft-380
Install-?

Better off just getting a 12 bolt.

Well Bill these guys are right but then again there are people like me who are getting by on a 10 bolt? Moser and strange both make stronger axels for the 10 bolts so if you want you can replace them if that is what you are concerned about etc... I think if you want for now the 4:10's will hold if you arent at the track and you arent trying to get it to dead hook etc... I think that is why mine is living. the stongest 10 bolt I can think of is useing the mini spool with a 3:73 or ower numericly due to the thicker gears and a set of moser/Strange axels with a T/A cover. but by the time you buy all that that is a good portion of a 12 bolt and especially if you acan find one used for a good deal etc... Axels-@$259.99x2=@519.98 Mini spool-$99.99(summit) T/A cover-$139.99 Gears(4:10 your choice.)-$181.88 for a grand total of $941.84 + shipping on a couple of these items and don't forget installation which after that will get you real close to a used 12 bolt or 9 inch with out all the work and with a little security that you know it will hold etc... Hope I helped you and didn't confuse you good luck!

More times than not, having much more than 400 horses will destroy even a beefed up 10 bolt.

spending ANY money on a 10-bolt is a waste of money. After you break it one time and have to rebuild it, you could have already had a 12-bolt.

Even worse is when the weak rearend breaks, locks up, and then causes your tranny to bust too. Been there done that, 10-bolts suck.

No I have one (12bolt) that I just bought, but I haven't had time to install it yet. All I did to my rear end is go through it and made sure everything was 100% right so it has been good to me anyone can tell you I am hard on it. This is not the norm though so don't think everyone's will be that good. Tony is right the 10 bolt is only part of the damage they can cause. See you around guys.
