Default Thoughts on Austin

I just got back from Austin and had a few thoughts to share. I went to school at UT from 1993 to 1998, and this was the first time I had a chance to just spend a day driving around. Forgive me if I sound like a grouchy old fart.

1) Austin ruined Capital of Texas Highway. Coming from 183, it used to be that you would pass the bridge and then there were no more traffic lights until you hit Mopac. Now there are about 6 lights in between there. What used to be a really nice cruise is now no different than driving down Lamar.

2) Shopping centers LOVE speed bumps. Not just little ones either. I'm talking the big, tall, crowned, y-pipe eating ones.

3) Shopping centers LOVE crested entrances. See #2.

4) If UT tears down Players to make another parking garage that they won't let students use, it will be the biggest tragedy to hit the University since UCLA beat UT 66-3 at DKR.

5) Pluckers still has the best wings. Ever.

There is no way it beats la traffic it is horrible. Austin comes in second in my book except for maybe the DC area but Houston is third.

What the hell is a v-sux ?

I have never been in that bad of traffic in dfw the worst is North Dallas and even then it's not too bad.

The stuff in the D.C. area is crazy I would never go through that everyday not to mention the Yankees are rude.

Yea, austin traffic does suck, not as bad as L.A. or some dallas traffic.

I heard you guys were fixing to start building the baseball team a new stadium, is this true?

That was meant for Michael Sosebee.

Darkside, what I was saying to 2 Slow is that as a college student, you get to miss the worst of the rush hour.

I have sat on Mopac and been STOPED for 20 minutes. And this isnt a one time issue.

Part of the reason traffic is so horrible is because most of the drivers are in their own little world.

Example: Driving south on Mesa, I came to a 4-way stop. I wanted to turn left on Far West, so I had my signal on. There was a car in front of me, and across the intersection, there were also two cars. The car ahead of me went straight, then the car across went straight. I started my turn and the other car across barely even slowed down at the stop sign and damn near hit me. I laid on the horn and the lady looked up like "Omigosh! There's someone there!"

I would chalk that up to a bad driver, but it happened no less than THREE TIMES over the weekend. It's a 4-way STOP, not a 4-way slow down and go whenever you feel like it.

yeah, well he can still catch a glimpse of it, he lived on riverside... but i do understand where we wontget the full idea until we have to drive across town or something like that.

also i agree with the traffic is so bad bc of its drivers... they are terrible, most go under the speed limit to begin with, and like mentioned earlier, they are all in their own world... it is unbelieveable

Mopac is AWFUL traffic... BUT it still is not nearly as bad as Houston. Only place that was worse was LA and DC...

I will actually have to agree with you. Traffic is not so bad here. Its has its good and bad spots but nothing like 610 in houston and 59.

Traffic in Houston is bad, but it's almost always moving. I had some run-ins with Austin traffic (granted, this was 6.5 years ago) and people there just STOP. WTF IS THAT?!?! You don't STOP on a freeway! The only time I've ever come to a complete stop for more than a minute on Houston's freeways is if there is construction or an accident.
