Default unhappy with MTI

Well here is the story back in march my brother took my ride to MTI for a head cam and torque converter with tranny cooler. So four month's later when I returned from Iraq my tranny crapped out I know my car wasnt dogged because my wife only drove it to work. So I go out and buy another tranny well when we dropped the trans my friend said do u know u dont have a tranny cooler. I was like are u sure and so I took a look and like he said no tranny cooler well turns out MTI forgot to install my cooler so I then try taking it back to them to get my cooler on and see if they will repair my tranny since I think it could be the reason my tranny gave out so quick. Well David said no that he doesnt feel MTI was at fault so they wont fix my tranny. Very nice of them to say screw you but I would like to say that Garret ur still cool in my book Im sure if it was up to you u would of hooked me up thank's for your help. Well thats my little dilema so for all you guys who choose MTI for ur performance needs make sure u get what u paid for as for me I think I'll try some other shop from now on.

If they charged you for a tranny cooler and labor on installing one, you should at least get a refund on that.

Now, as far as your tranny going out because you didn't have a cooler, I'd have to agree with David on that not happening. Especially if it wasn't ragged on.

Yes I did pay for the cooler and by the way I forgot to add that they did put the cooler on after I had to purchase a new tranny.

definetly don't think its the reason it went...but it very well may have caused it to go a little faster

how many miles are on your car? I think you should be disappointed that MTI forgot to install the cooler in the first place, but I don't think you can blame them for your tranny failing in this case. So, I don't think they told you "screw you" as you stated. If the car wasn't raced or ragged on, that tranny never would have failed with or without a cooler. They don't come from the factory with coolers, and guys rag the hell out of them without any problems for quite a while.

I think you should be asking your wife what she was doing while you were gone! Seriously though, it's hard to know exactly what happens when you are gone.

They actually do, its ran through the radiator, when you install a tranny cooler you splice the lines that go in to the radiator.

It does in the winter. That is why you keep the factory "cooler" even when installing a second cooler.

I think you know what I mean Neil. When we buy our trucks with a "towing package", typically the factory installs external air coolers. F-bodies do not come with them.

No question that we neglected to install the cooler. It simply got overlooked on the work order and I indicated to Garett this afternoon that we would credit you back for both the cooler and the installation in addition to putting the part on your vehicle for you today. If you'd like that credit, please give Garett a call tomorrow and he'll issue it for you.

Relative to the lack of a cooler causing the tranny to fail, there were several reasons why both Jayson and I think that couldn't/wouldn't have been the case including the age of your vehicle, the mileage, condition and the fact that you added an additional 100 rwhp to the car with the heads/cam package.

I do apologize that we didn't install the cooler and look forward to your call tomorrow to credit you back the money we owe you.

Sincerely,

David Coates

I can almost guarantee not having a cooler won't cause your transmission to fail, and like others in the thread have said -- especially if its not being beat on. ZAngel's 370cid, T76 turbocharged Camaro has a Vigi 3200 in the 4L60e, and no external tranny cooler. No failure so far, and transmission temperatures stay pretty darned reasonable. Heck its been running with a converter, and without a cooler since 2002 or something like that
