When I first bought my SS, it took almost $20. Now it is easlily $40. I can afford it, but damn I could be spending that money in parts or another sickness.

NEW YORK — Crude oil futures (search) spiked to more than $70 a barrel for the first time Monday amid fears about Hurricane Katrina's (search) potential for damage, then retreated into the $66 range, as traders viewed the spike as a temporary phenomenon.

Light, sweet crude for October delivery climbed as much as $4.67 a barrel to hit a high of $70.80 before trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange (search), but gave up virtually all its gains. It was trading at $66.50, up only 37 cents, Monday afternoon.

what will spending 8k on a bike help?
more payments, and still costs money to run.

Yeah so it may get double the gas mileage, its another payment.

the offset of the cost will take so long to recoupe, its pointless.
someone feel free to get technical with economics, I dont have my books with me...
-my .02 on the day.

Hey I live in Waxahachie Tx. and one thing that alot of people are doing is not buying gas from Texaco,Exxon,Mobil, and Shell.I was told buy a few friends that they have been buying from truck stops,RaceTrack,Wal-Mart,and local grocery stores who sell gas. We have noticed that the big names are starting to lower their prices to get business.I have done the same as they are so hopefully they will lower the prices of gas. Nobody seems to understand that the average guy can't afford to fill up his (car or truck) to go to work when we are paying these price on gas.If we stopped driving for one day and did not buy any fuel I bet they would catch on real quick. Sorry so long just filled up my suburban 113.00 and I needed to vent of a little steam.

Well, bought my first bike previously before gas prices went up.
Ex: One week commute in car $80
One week commute in bike $20
Savings of $60 per week=$239.99 per month
This is plenty for a bike payment, I know there is other cost associated insur, maint, also weather(I dont mind)etc. In the end you get a bike and thats an extra toy. Also if experienced enough, you get No Tickets , and the joy of taking out any car you choose.

Of course, all those figures go out the window when that little old lady pulls right out infront of you and you've got $30,000 in medical bills...
