It's too bad the 4th largest city in the country won't have a big-time amusement park anymore. We've been going to Astroworld for many, many years, and it has steadily declined. I will miss XLR8 the most.

Oh well, the Big D and San Antonio aren't that far away.

I rode the cyclone 20 years ago and it scared me so bad I have not or will not ride another one! That xlr8 thing was pretty cool though.

So...you never really cared for the place, yet you have never been? That's an interesting statement.

From what I've heard in certain Houston business magazines, Astroworld was not losing money but instead they were bought out for a significant amount of money in order to construct something else. Who knows, but it is sad to see it go. Where will we get our airbrushed T-shirts from now?

We went this last weekend since my company threw a party for us. It was awesome!!! It was as though we were the only ones there. We showed up at 10:15 and left at 4. We ate twice (on Goodman's dime) and rode everything we wanted to without a wait. Well...maybe 3 minute wait at most. We didn't even have to get off of rides to ride them a second time if we wanted; i.e. Viper.

By the way I don't know what all the excitement is about XLR8...that ride SUCKS!! The wife and I fell asleep on it...but then again my wife was being lulled to sleep on the Looping Starship. She's tougher than I.

This news makes me sad and angry. Now we have to drive to Arlington...The Titan rocks though.

I went almost every single year.

Regarding long lines / crowds / thugs: Near the end of the season (mid-Oct.) before they extended Fright Fest, or near the beginning of the season (mid-May) afterwards, it was never bad.

I had been hoping Cedar Fair would buy it and fix it up, I've heard their parks are kept up much better than Six Flags's. Maybe they'll build a nice new one in this area now

Im for sure wanting to go before it closes down. I had a lot of good memories there.
I can remember my dad dragging me on the Texas cyclone when i was just tall enough to ride. What an effect it has on you when your young. I could eat lunch while riding it now.
I can remember going there to meet girls when i was not old enough to drive.
I remember what a frontal ball racking i got the first time i rode Batman escape.
I can remember how it smelled like somebody took liquid *** and just sprayed it everywhere in some areas of the park.
Ah the great memories, but somehow i will still hear that music in the back of my mind(you know all that theme park music), and also the children crying about something.
Sad to see it go, I wanted my son to ride the cyclone one day, despite the crack town that formed around it. makes me wonder what the crackville will do to whatever is being built there afterwards.

To those that wonder how the cyclone stays standing... It has a maintinance schedule that replaces certain boards periodicly.

ive always had good times at astro world. Would love to go one more time before it closes. Damn shame to see it go, i heard they were still making lots of money, and the real reason was to the new owners.
