Default Hurricane Rita - Houston Evacuation?

If Rita hits around here, will it be possible that folks from the NW Houston area could be evacuated? I want to see what we are in for.

I hardly doubt that Houston will be evacuated because we are over 100 miles inland but yet they are supposed to make a decision tomorrow morning about evacuating galveston. They have already started pulling workers off of rigs out in the gulf. It technically IS possible that houston will be evacuated, I mean I watched the news last night and they were already speculating escape routes and yada yada. If it continues on the projected path, then yah were gonna get hit pretty hard though.

I'm going to loot G-Force. I saw a pretty nice turbo kit in there the other day.

Hey Mike. I didn't notice a "Miller Lite" selection on the coke machine you've got in the back. What's up with that?

====> lets also all remember not to freak out too much.

This is NOT going to be another New Orleans.

Houston is well above sea level, and if anything, we'll get some flooding, high winds, and maybe some crap knocked down. Driving around today I saw everyone and their mother freaking the hell out, but lets keep it together and if you hang onto common sense, everything else will be fine. Unless it gets real real bad, I am planning on riding this sonovabitch out. Yes the lights will go out, maybe no air conditioning for a while, but it's really not the end of the world like a lot of people are acting.

It is not impossible for it to happen here, its very likely it could happen especailly if the storm is what they are saying it is

Read this if you actually believe that!!

https://ls1tech.com/forums/texas-members/383109-hurricane-rita-update-upcoming-days.html

Interesting Fact....

I just looked this up

Hurricane Rita's Tropical storm winds stretch out as far as 120Miles
It is suppose to come ashore in Matagorta Bay as of now.
Matagorta Bay is 95.1 Miles (driving) from Houston.
As the Crow Flies (or as the hurricane moves) that distance becames more like 65-70 Miles from Houston.
Hurricane Katrina's Hurricane winds of 120mph + reached out as far as 150miles in Hattiesburg, MS

Nothing is IMPOSSIBLE! Improbable yes IMPOSSIBLE no. Add together a 20 ft storm surge and 10inches of rain with no run off and it would be bad

sure it could flood...
it could flood anywhere.

but in order to have a situation comparable to what happened in NO, you have to first have a city with a comparable setup - ie: below sea level

And also you need to think about something.. Around the SE part of town we havent had a good rain in a month or more.. Thats what the problem with Allison was, we had a BIG rain that week.. The ground will absorb lots of water.

yeah, and allison sat here and swirled around between houston and the coast for days and days.... this storm is a lot stronger and will move far into the land and break up as it goes....

i would be very surprised if we got anywhere close to the amount of rain we got with allison
