Question t-tops

i really want t-tops on my fbod but not sure if i should do the conversion or do a trade with someone for a different fbody with ttops. there are a few dealers around the metroplex of dallas who deal in fbodies but i really dont think they would give me a hassle free trade, even though my 4mula has low miles and is stock. what are yalls opnions on my dilemma?

there is a thread somewhere here on ls1 tech on how to do the conversion, a guy with a 1995 z28 did it. i used the search and it found nothing. after you remove the skin on the roof you can see the "gutters" for the ttops. then you have to cut the 2 bars on each side of the roof and put in weatherstripping.

That convertion is more of a pain in the *** than it's worth. If you absolutely have to have T tops trade the car or go with a convertible but if it were me I just keep the hard top, I rarely take my t tops off anyway.

I've seen someone with a Targa Top conversion. Looked like it'd be easier than the T-top one, and nicer/more original too.

I haven't seen a how too on the Targa one though. Has anyone else?

I rarely ever take my t tops off, but I like having the glass roof most of the time. Especially if I happen to have it out in the rain. However there is no way I would hack up my car, trade it in if you want them that bad.

There is a guy who does the conversion in Denton. He dosen't charge much and he has done a few of them for people, so he has a little experience.

Good luck,

the conversion doesnt scare me but if hes done it before and doesnt charge much id have him do it. im just entertaining the idea right now tho, it will take a few more weeks of sunny days to convince me. any idea how the conversion cars are doing, no leaks or frame tweaks? if i got t-tops i would plan on having them off pretty much everytime i drive the car and it was above 70degrees

this is what i was tlaking about, how 4th gens already have the gutters and everything already needed under the roof skin

I would definitely like to have t-tops - my A/C doesn't work! Ha! It would be very nice during the summer to have the t-tops off.

How much would a t-top conversion cost me? What does the guy in Denton charge plus parts?

He is a member of the camaroz28.com forum. Here is a post with all of his info.

I haven't seen any of his work, but he says that there are no problems with anything.

Hope this helps,

Joe

Do what makes you happy....I've been kicking around the same thing for a long time now...and I like you REALLY want them. Everyone likes to cry about weight, but what's the weight difference?? 50 lbs, add in the SFC's to keep the chassis from flexing....It's not going to make THAT big a difference unless you LIVE at the track. Ive been told that they leak water at the car wash...I wash mine by hand.... If it starts to leak in 10 years...replace the rubber.

It's not my thread, but seriously, what problems have you guys seen with your T-Tops? Have any of you replaced all the rubber and had them still leak? (normal conditions... pressure washer leaks i would expect.)

I was told the same thing about the LS1 Conversion into my 97. Have you seen it done?

Ive done a few ttop conversions before. Its pretty easy, even for someone who's never done them before. Here is a pic of my 95 Formula, it came with Ttops from the factory :p
