I agree. I would rent a van. I had to do that when I was picking up 2 fenders, a front bumper, and a hood for my mustang. Go with a van. 4.5 hours is a long time to drive without a hood. That way you avoid all the stares and a ticket. Plus you know how state troopers are. Most of the time those bastards nail you for anything.

What make of hood is it, I mean is it oem or a aftermarket fiberglass one?
Cause if it's a cheap knockoff like mine was...... it didn't just fit right on, there was some work done to get it to fit like slotting the hinges and stuff (could take some extra time you didn't plan for)

Just a little fyi.

Oh, and make sure you check the weather ( www.weather.com ) for all the areas you will be traveling through to make sure there's not gonna be any thunderstorms.

Go to Enterprise. Unlimited mileage, and a one day rental shouldn't be more than about $50-60. Well worth the cost if you think about the time you'll end up wasting driving there, getting **** all over your engine bay, getting pulled over more than likely, and everything else.

Plus, like its been mentioned, the hood may need more tweaking than you'll want to do on-site, and with a 9 hour round-trip time, that would be icing on top of the shitpile.

Heh... I once drove to H-town (2hours) in my 4dr Cavalier to pick up an SS Camaro hood from a guy who had driven down from Kansas.

He said the hood fit in the back seat of his 4dr silverado, so we both ASSumed it would fit in the Cav. WRONG!! When I got there we discovered it would never fit unless we took a sawzall down the middle of it, lol.

It being really late on a Sunday afternoon, we couldn't find anything to tie it on the roof except a few rolls of twine from the (closing) dollar store and some Thrifty Nickel classifieds to pad it with! You shoulda seen the twine going every which way on that little car! Spiderman would have been proud

Made it home just fine, btw.

I agree.....I have seen many a old 60's and 70's running around during the summer in Kentucky. Now I knwo that rules differ from state to state, But it shouldn't hurt anything.....

If you do get pulled over, tell them you are going to pick it up and install it...

as far as the ticket is concerned, IF you do get issued a ticket for no hood, which i dont even think is illegal, it is NOT a moving violation therefore will not violate your probation. however, i say spend the 50 bucks and rent a van. the money u spend renting the van will be made up in the mileage because of your 3.73 gears on a 9 hr trip.

Can anyone tell me why not having a hood would even be considered illegal? I have seen plenty of mustangs rollin around with no hood. Just don't see how or why cops would care about that.

Rain won't effect anything under the hood, when you're driving through water do you think it somehow doesn't get up there? I've washed engines with a waterhose and never had any problems...just don't spray it in a car with a distributor. Might cause issues if it gets in there.

Shoot, you've gotta have a friend with a mom with a minivan or something you can borrow for a couple hours.

haha. I think I might just have him ship it. Its like $60 to ship via greyhound and plus I wont have to spend money on gas or 9 hours of my time. I wonder if shipping is safe with these hoods? How would you find a box to work with this thing? I wonder how it would need to be packaged?
