Have you ever drag raced?!?!?! Ok your first sentence makes sense.....the track is a straight line and your purpose is to get to the end as fast as possible. But there is more to it that just hitting the accelerator! So here we go.....first.....you roll through the water box and get a burnout to heat up the tires to give you optimum traction. second.....roll up to the staging lights and stage. third......reaction time is critical so you have to be quick and on the ball to get off the line quicker than your opponent. fourth....when you come off the line you have to be ready to either let off the gas a little due to spinning or pray you gave it enough gas and dont bog.(if you have a standard). fifth.....you have to constantly monitor your rpms and make sure not to over rev and hit the rev limiter or worse but yet get as high into the rpm range to get maximum hp. sixth....you have to hit each gear flawlessly....one miss of the gear and you lost! seventh....you have to finish out the race with your car still in one piece! a lot can happen @ 120mph!!

I know the whole " you can teach a monkey to go in a straight line" b/s i have had way too many dumbasses tell me it....but can you teach him to get a bad *** reaction time and to keep it off of the barriers? i doubt it

I'm not saying that auto xing isn't hard b/c i know it is.....hell i have never even done it myself so i dont know exactly how hard it is. But i do know that drag racing isn't a walk in the park! So before you start posting your biased opinion do a little research on the other sport. And i'm not pointing that directly at you.....its towards every person who bashes on the sport of drag racing.

ummmmm, ok. Let's keep this conversation civilized. This thread is not to discuss the merits of Drag racing vs. Auto crossing, both are challenging, both in different ways. That's a fact, No one is going to deny that.

Now I have a question for the people interested in this club;
Do you think that a club like this needs to be university recognized? Some people on Lone Star Stangs pointed out that we don't need recognition to have a successful and fun club. And that it might cut out a major portion of the time required to make it a good club.

I am thinking that recognition might be work than it is worth right now.

And Mojave, I hardly think you are qualified to gauge how good/bad our drag events were this semester, since you didn't go to any of them.

To answer a few questions asked, yes brandon has drag raced, traction isn't much an issue since it's a dsm. Both are hard in different ways, and both are a blast. As for "blame" being based on the drag chair, i think everyone in TAMSCC agree's that it was the most active drag racing season yet for the club in a long time. Either way it's done now, lets see how people feel about these new ideas. I dont really care if it's university recognized or not. There is a group of people that increases almost every wednesday and friday and it's getting good in the area. Lots of people interested in cars so just come up with ideas to get people to try different things. I say if you havn't done autox, do it, it's fun.

I don't know if everyone is aware, but we are trying to start a local club for anyone including A&M. The idea is to attend car shows, drag race and even atten autoxing. Discusion are being held to see how far are we willing to go with this "club". Give it sometime but we believe it will do some good.

before any more crappy posts by everyone, ive been aroudn the b/cs scene for a while and out of the loop for a while as well, but i dont think both sides are understanding each other.

back in the day, there used to be "car club" and tamscc.

i was involved in both.

"car club" was a group of people that hung out and farted around, and oh teh noes we ******* street raced omg911help. we hung out, talked about cars, and went to the track sometimes, but we went out and ******* did what car peopel do and raced. did we kill anyone? no. did we police ourselves to keep peopel that might kill someone out? yes.

then there was tamscc.

street racing=ohtehnoesdie. corners are the name of the game, and driving.

the two have never mixed. i tried to get people from tamscc out to the local meets, never happened. i tried to get the "car club" folks out to tamscc stuff and i was somewhat successful. there is not one person i know from back in teh day that i never successfully dragged out to an auto-x run by the "******** at tamscc" that didnt have fun, and come back, or try to come back.

this new club seems to be an attempt to mix the two, i wish them good luck, and since nasty has shut down there hasnt been a good GROUP of the SAME people that go drag racing a lot. there has also AFAIK NEVER been a GROUP of tamscc'ers that go to the local meets. ever. even sparsely attenting, never happened.

now in a perfect world and you are my freinds, but josh, will and kat woudl go back to tamscc, tell chad to eat a dick and grow up (although he does need to go on a diet, but he does need to grow up and get on a treadmill), everyone needs to just pull out a measurement caliper and see who has the longest 5''+fraction *****, and make out and get over it.

its the same problem thats always been around, jsut different faces, but some of the same wierd motives on both parts that just wont go away. in a perfect world everyone would get along, tamscc would learn that gonig to hang out at the local meets isnt supporting street racing, its ******* hanging out at the local meets, and if some of the local meet peopel would learn that tamscc isnt full of ****** and ********, only part of tamscc is, as with any group of people youve got your dicks and ********, and you just gotta deal with it.

point of this post?

the world isnt perfect, but i wish that everyone could get along, and some tamscc memebers could do something besides talk **** in a closed forum thinking other people dont read it. especially those who drive altimas. some you tamscc people need to get out and about in b/cs more often, some of you sonic/hastings/oreilly meet people need to get more involved with tamscc so the general scene altogether in b/cs could be a better one, and work to improve the overall car community in b/cs, whethere they drive a modded civic, or a 9 second camaro with skinnies in the front, or a riced out 240sx with a supercharged ls1. were all car people, some people like different things, but everyone imo needs to respect one another, and b/cs really needs the two groups to work together, and has for a while. officially or unofficially, enjoy cars together.

/long post of redundant and unorganized comments. worth together not against.

this is the same club myself and ssilverssurfer were trying to bring up on the first page. would be bad *** to combine the two! Especially after the large amount of cars showing up the past few weeks!

Ok I agree with Will and everybody else that thinks that the tamscc gives u more crap than anything else. i just think that everybody talks to much **** and trash and dont act like a welcoming club. if the other club does ever start, i'll be there asap. i would just like for there to be a club for straight up muscle cars....

Okay, first off, if you don't like drag racing
Something tells me that these drag racing bashers could not make a 9 sec car run 11's. They just couldn't handle the power.
Next, I don't understand what the big ordeal is. Auto-x is probably a lot of fun. I have never done it but would like to. I am sure it has a different perspective of difficulty. Why is this drag racing vs. auto-x an arguement? They both involve cars. If you are a true car enthusiast, then you wouldn't be bitchin, you would be racing!

so um... are we starting a club or what? everyone seems to be getting all "uppidy" and needs to chill. I dont spend every dime on my car to fight with people about what kind of race is better. I just want to be in a combined group that just loves cars and has enough overall knowledge to help out the whole.

I like the name that was brought up sounds really good. how is the group going to work? group only meetings? certain entrance criteria? stickers? i think these are more productive questions if you ask me

We are still considering a club, but the decision now is whether we want to be a university club, or to run with the newly forming BCS street club.

I will definately be talking about this at sonic on friday, show up if you want to put in your two cents.
