Yes, that's the 8.1L from the 2500HD,3500 silverado's.

Gas guzzling bitches, I would definitely go with a duramax in a HD, and probably wouldn't drop that hoss in a car.

ide like to take that thing and make a 565 out of it.aluminum big cheif heads 9.0.1 compression and a big single turbo.

nevermind, just found out that the Duramax is a deisel motor, and this little 8.1 is gas.

Why do that when you could buy a 572 crate motor and make more power N/A than a 565 with less cost.

It's a 502 cid engine, atleast that's what the owners manual in my 01 3500 dually says.

8100/16.39= 494.2 ci. but yeah they call it the 502. i think it's a piece.

It's based off of the older big block chevy designs, just with newer stuff added to it like the intake and electronic throttle control. Apparently it's a real oil burner too, something like 3-quarts per 100 gallons of gas (or something like that). It's also used as a marine engine too, but since it's pretty much maxed out on bore, so once the cylinder walls are done, so is the block.
