Default My car is a pain in my ***

I bought my 02 Firehawk in May from out of state, since then Ive been working on it to get it to pass inspection. Everything works, but it has no cats. Ive deleted rear o2 sensors, Ive deleted misfire codes, Ive put hundreds of dollars into this thing and Xtreme Horsepower has put in countless hours working on this thing, and it STILL wont pass. I cant even put it in my name to sell it. Any suggestions? Is there anything I can do to pay the taxes and register it without having an inspection?

I think the software that it was tuned on goes a step further than LS1 edit, but overall its the same. It was done by a speed shop and was pretty in depth

There is an emissions exemption that you can qualify for after failing twice and spending a certain amount of money. It was discussed in another thread in this forum.

Have you considered getting it inspected and registered in a non-emissions county ? Thats another option that may work for you.

Well why dont you just put some cats on it to get it to pass??

Also - with proper tuning you can get some pretty radical motors to pass emissions, just fyi

A. to put cats on it it would be expensive, I dont have a cheap exhaust system and I dont want to cut it up, and
B. proper tuning doesnt make cats magically appear when the inspector looks under the car.

i work at meacham and there is a kid that works at the XXXX XXXX in XXXXXX. he passed my car and i am missing a LOT of stuff. he never asked and i kept my mouth shut. bald tires, no cats, no egr, no air, headers, ect. if you dont have any codes you should be good to go. i cut up a set of old cats and welded the sheilds from the cats on my car here recently though so i can try and make it appear that i got them.

Don't get your friends in trouble posting who can get you passed.

Thanks,
Craig.

who let you in here?

Now they have a copy of the VIN when they scan, no more illegit inspections.
My camaro has been a jeep wrangler and a ford ranger in years past. You get a sweet ticket in the mail if they catch a duplicate VIN. ($2,500.00) from what I hear.

Are you throwing an SES?

I am screwed too. Both camaros are due for inspection....Both are SES'n like a mug too!

I know who you are talking about in my area, he doesnt work there anymore.
Im not throwing SES anymore, the last guy said it wouldnt pass, but wouldnt tell me why, it was more of a just cuz. As for the limited mileage waiver that was spoken about before, from what I understand from talking to other inspection guys, thats TXs way of enforcing the clunker law. You have to produce all kinds or reciepts and make several trips to Irving, then they offer you $1000 for your car and want to destroy the one you cant get to pass inspection. Its pretty decieving I hear.

Has been covered a bit already but bottom line:

1. Get a "friendly" inspector lined up.

2. Get a catted-Y pipe. No need to cut up your other exhaust (unless it doesn't have a Y-pipe like true duals). heck you can swap between a catted and OR Y-pipe. I have FLP's on one of my cars. In 20 minutes I can have the test pipes off and cat's back on so it's "inspection ready".

I have bought several cars out of state

To register it, you do NOT have to have EMISSIONS tests done. Only SAFETY. You need a "green card" as they call it proving it passed SAFETY inspection. its 12.50 then AFTER registered, you need the EMISSIONS sticker to be legal in the counties with emissions tests.

Cliff notes: Go tell them you need a "green sheet" to have the car registered to TEXAS. it has nothing to do with emmisions. If they argue, go somewhere else cause they are wrong.

PS> Dont say green card or you might end up in Mexico city

Exclamation Need Some Help Here Also

My car has missfires only when it rains! car spudders for 10 minutes the SES light will flash then it starts running OK and the light stays on. 30 mins later the light turns off, and for the next week it will spudder for 10 seconds 3 mins after i start the car. i took it to my cusin but since the light is turning off before i can get there it's not showing any problems.

it did this a few months back and i had a bad o2 senor but the codes told us that. is it possible my damn cowl hood could be responsible for this BS

anyone had this problem before? it's really fustrating

tune, headers, ORY-Pipe, Lid and catback is all thats done to it.

If the car does not have a SES light on and they do not look for your cats, and all of your test perimiters are "Ready" then you should be fine. I had my codes deleted, and have had a few uncatted large cammed cars pass before.
