Default Any good places to watch bands play in Houston?

I'm goin down to houston to do some musical research and I'm wanting to know the best places to see good local bands play. I don't mean venues like verizon or the staples center. Stuff like the door, liquid lounge, and places that can host national acts but at the same time local bands. TIA

I've been to Scout a couple of times and the bands that were playing were actually very good. I didn't pay any attention to who they were, but they did have some talent for sure.

My vote would be Scout, one of my favorites. They have a lot of Texas bands, but every once in a while, they have more popular bands that you would hear on the radio.

Are you looking for rock bands, or any frm of music.

Rice University offers free concerts during the school year. I've been to a couple of them, and they are pretty good. Obviously, it is classical music from the 4 main periods of history. They have 3-4 groups of 2-6 members, mostly strings with a piano. They even had a harpsichord during one of the performances .

i've been thinking about the same thing. i dont like going to bars much, and clubs really aren't my thing... i'd much rather stay at home, play games and listen to my own music.

but i'd go out to see some rock bands and have some drinks.
