Default Possible move to Dallas

My boyfriend is going to be applying for a manager for FedEx and one of the current openings is in Dallas. We both know you guys have some awesome fbody gatherings there and theres a lot of people I know of from there. We just need to do some research on the housing and area before he would apply. So can anyone tell me what the weather is like year round? We both hate the cold up here in VA. I really want to move to NC but there arent any openings there and hasnt been and he cant just keep on being a courier till there is one.

Anyway if anyone can chime in with anything helpful I'd appreciate it

Yesterday in DFW, it was 65+ degrees. Today it's like 40 at best. During the winter, you're looking at around an average of the 40 - 50s during the day and then in the 30s at night.
In the summer, average of high 80's to mid 90s are the average with some days at 100+ Plus, the humidity can suck at times so it's pretty awful to go outside.

Fall and Spring are quite nice though, not too hot, not too cold...just right!

Would he be working over by Meechum airport/TX motor speedway north of FT Worth? Fed Ex's area hub is at that airport. If that's the case, there are a lot of new housing divisions going up around there right off of I-35W at the Golden Triangle exit. If you want a little cheaper, you could live up more towards South Denton on the I-35W side.

You'll be pleasantly surprised when you see the housing costs here as opposed to VA, and no state income tax (not sure if VA has one). If he'll be at Alliance, there's a saturation of homes in the area, so much so that new home builders are offering awesome incentives on new homes. You can get a brand new 2000sf DR Horton home for $140k-150k. If you want cheaper, Fox and Jacobs is offering $20k off on new homes which will bring some of them into the lower $100k range for 1400sf.

I just bought a home in the area and will be moving next week. The area is growing rapidly so take advantage while home prices are low.

Michelle! If you move to DFW, I'll really never get to see you guys at the gatherings, lol. Hope it all works out the way you want -- and maybe I'll see you at the March 3rd Rockville gathering in the meantime.

What are you doing in here Laurie?? Texas of all places sheesh. Yeah I know but we're both so sick of this area. I really hate it. The traffic is the worst which is another thing I was wondering about Dallas. I dont think it could be as bad as here. Tim and I could probably make it to the March 3rd event. Is it at CiCi's again? Did you know about the accident I had a few weeks ago with the bird???

Thanks for the replies guys and the info...greatly appreciate it! I'm not sure where the station is that he'd be applying to but its not the hub where the planes are. It would be a big main station where the trucks leave. I took a look at Remax and you all are right...the houses are cheap!! Here it's astronomical and total unaffordable to live.

What are the emissions and inspections like in Texas?

OBD II and visual inspection only.

And I meant Alliance Airport, not Meacham..

Traffic can be pretty bad at various spots here in the Metroplex. Depending on where you work/live however, it may not be that bad. If he is working at Alliance and you live just north or south of there along I-35W, you'll be just fine.

Have you ever seen the traffic around here or heard about it? Just so I can compare. It takes forever to go anywhere around here. Like to go 5 miles to work sometimes it can take 30 minutes. To take a trip down the road....maybe 10 miles takes 40 or more. Forget rushhour anywhere . I'm originally from PA so I'm not used to all this traffic and the people drive entirely too slow . When I lived in Manassas...just 13 miles south of here you have to take I-66 or rt 28. 66 is like hell...between 3-7 its bumper to bumper. Took an hour at the least to go the 13 miles home

LOL, I bought a '00 Trans Am -- I finally own an LS1, so I stopped lurking and joined as a qualified applicant. No, I didn't hear about the accident! I don't want to hijack your thread - feel free to PM me.

Yes, it's March 3 at CiCi's in Rockville at 2:00 - I'm just hoping for warmer weather. Hope to see you and Tim there, tell him I said hello.

the weather sucks during winter time, but after that it is perfect, well most the time. You should look into the area near addison/plano

um...not to throw the wrench in the works but the intersection of 35W and 820 is 2nd WORST in the Metroplex, either during morning OR afternoon Rush hour. From 820 all the way north to past Golden Triangle.

My boss lives @ 170 and 35 and HATES his commute from there to Grand Prairie. They need to move NORTH of that area and stay away from THAT side.

I would almost agree with the suggestion above, Denton might be the best bet. It's a nice town, there's a big college there as well (UNT). You want to stay in the NORTH Tarrant Country or Southern Denton County if he's gonna work at Alliance.

I'm just waiting to hear back from him on where the station is actually located. Currently he works at a Bcba and I'm not able to find one in Dallas by looking on the net.

The Metroplex is huge. You don't want to live in Garland if he's working at Alliance. That's a 1.5 hour drive. Hell, you don't want to live in Garland at all. FedEx has a hub at Alliance and one around DFW if I recall correctly.
