Process Tech. Operators in Houston..Need Help
Looking to come back home in a few months, and was wondering the best way to go about getting on with someone in the Houston Area...
6 years military, 13 months and counting with KBR in the sandbox...
but it gets old and i need something stable around houston..

They fact that you don't have a degree should not stop you from trying to get one of these jobs. Most of the big companies perfer a two year degree in process technology or three years maintenence experience. Depending on what you did in the military, that experience could be enough to get you a look. I got hired with no experience and I wasn't even finished with the certificate portion of the degree plan at Lee college. Get Certified a copy of your resume, check the sunday Houston Chronicle job section, and register with the Texas workforce commission.

We are hiring right now, but must have 2 year degree or 5 years experience.
Here is another option.
BP Texas City (Refinery & Chem Plant) has several openings in the following crafts---
Heavy Equipment Operator
Requires experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Either completion of a recognized apprentice program, 4 or more years of HEO experience on conventional and hydraulic cranes and dirt equipment, or a minimum of 2 years military HEO experience. At least 1 of the following NCCCO certifications: LBC, LBT, TLL (Swing Cab) and/or TSS (Fixed Cab). Experience in a petrochemical facility preferred.
Instrument & Electrical Mechanic
Requires an Associate’s Degree in I&E craft, or a recognized Apprenticeship program, or a minimum of two years Military training in a related field, or four years of I&E, or equivalent Analyzer experience. Experience in a petrochemical facility preferred.
Machinist
This work involves machine shop or field (Millwright) repairs on rotating equipment. Requires either an Associate’s degree in the machinist craft, completion of a recognized Apprenticeship Program, minimum of 2 years military training in a related field or 4 years of machinist experience. Experience in a petrochemical facility preferred.
Pipefitter/Welder
Either an Associate’s degree in the Pipefitter/Welder craft, completion of a recognized Apprenticeship Program, a minimum of two years Military training in a related field, or 4 years of Pipefitter/Welder experience. For welding positions, proficiency in Carbon/Stainless TIG and Stick processes preferred. Experience in a petrochemical facility preferred.

They all need degrees.... or experience.. I have 7 years Logistics (5 1/2 military)under my belt, but dont want to do that anymore once i leave the desert. Including a couple years supervisory experience. Toxic thanks man for the excellent advice, i called certified and left a voicemail so hopefully they will call back tomorrow. We shall see.

You don't have to have a degree, but it does help if you've had a class or two, so you have some kind of idea about the pieces of equipment you're working with.

i will definately look into it! they offer the courses at Lee college? do they offer some tyoe of online deal? if i can do some classes online and at least have the cert done by the time i come back from here would save a bunch of heartache on having to sit on my *** while i "try" to find a job....

You can do some of the classes online, but I don't think all of the classes needed for the certificate are available online. You should be able to get a good number of the classes done via online.
