Default Help needed!!!

Ok, I have had my car for approx a month and a half since I have been home. It is burning about a quart of oil a week! I had it tuned by the original assembler and he said that it was probably just oil from inside the exhaust still from the old #7 piston that was bad. I now know that it cant be the case as I have long blown all of that out.

It smokes when I get on it hard or when I have the RPM's high then just let off the gas and leave it in gear.

I had the car retuned elsewhere and it quit smoking so bad but I am still not pleased. I put way to much money in the motor to have it smoke like some old beater!

I have disassembled the PCV valve and capped off the air tubes from the valve cover to the throttle body.

I also have a breather in the oil fill cap to release pressure.

could be anything from a bad or missing valve seal, improperly gapped rings . you say it has a breather on the valve cover. does it smoke from the breather when its running?

Yea it does.

Is it possible for a valve seal to go bad in under 2000 miles? It has been doing it since the new motor was installed. They reused the original heads so I am assuming that they replaced the seals. I need to call the builders and try to find out as I never got a build sheet.

It's no likely to be valve seals if it gets bad at WOT. On most motors that is a clear sign of the rings being shot. It could be some bad pcv problems, but you probably have something wrong with the shortblock.

These guys have already given you the run down on where to look I look for more lifted or missing ring glands if it was just a repaired stock shortblock. Sorry good luck. Drop me a pm if you need some help. I am in the area I believe as you posted about going to the meet at Hooters.

It better not be the rings! Its a 408 fully built forged shortblock with just 2,000 miles on it. No track time on it yet!!

Well if it is puffing smoke out the breather while idling then there is definately a piston or ring issue and the smoking is being caused by exssesive blowby etc... And who built your motor? My next suggestion is going to be the valves either guides or seals can cause you to burn oil

It doesnt look like smoke, no coloration in it. I shot you a pm, maybe you can take a look sometime soon but I am getting the seals changed next week.

There is nothing wrong with the engine. The problem is with your driving and the amount of pressure it creates on the crankcase. Put a vacuum pump setup on the car and the smoke will be non -existent or if the rings havent seated completely yet which they should be already, hit it with some nitrous in 3rd gear for about 10 seconds and you can bet they will seat then. Thats how my builder seats all his rings on the dyno to get repeatable results for his NA tuning.

My dad would agree with you on that!

I am just tired of looking in the mirror and seeing some smoke behind me when I get on it. It also gets old cleaning out the inside of my Corsa tips every two days!!
