Default Shipping an automotive safety airbag?

I usually use Fed Ex or USPS (post office) for shipping packages and was wondering if you can ship automotive safety airbags?

I called Fed Ex, but the dangerous goods department is closed. I figured I would need to speak with them since it seems like a dangerous shipment.

If you can ship one, what are the procedures? Any additional cost? What happens if you fail to mention its an airbag?

i BELIVE you can just DO NOT ship it air. Ship it ground only and put the ORM-D sticker on 4 sides of the box.

It'll be ground. No hurry for the shipment, but just curious, why not air? What's an ORM-D sticker?

It is Haz-Mat, and it will be no matter how you ship it...air, truck, train, or boat. It might fall under ORM-D, just depends on how you ship it. Air (IATA) rules are strict, and it all depends on size of Haz-Mat to fall under ORM-D.

Do NOT be a cheap *** and not declare it Haz-Mat! If you get popped you will get fined heavily by Fed-Ex and the government.
And put it this way, how would you like it if you were flying on a plane and in the cargo bin the air-bag pops and causes a fire and your plane goes down? ...you wouldn't like it very long thats for sure.

Here are links on shipping Haz-Mat:

DOT 49 (road):

IATA (air):

Craig.

I want to ship it regular ground if I use Fed Ex and just regular mail if I use the post office.

i dont really think it can pop, its just that anything that can be explosive, is under pressure or is a liqud or gel form cant be shipped air what so ever.

OK, here is what you do Jeremy.

Go to a Chevy dealership and ask them how they ship airbags, or how they come in.

Regardless that it "should" not pop is not the point here. There are safety measures for reasons, and I really DOUBT its ORM-D. ORM-D is 99% aerosols.

You might get lucky and get to ship it Haz-Mat "Limited Quanites" if it fall under a small certain amount. Small fee for that.

I'm guessing its a co2 cartridge which is a compressed gas class 2, and a sub class oxidizer class 5 (I think).

Peace,
Craig.

I called Fed Ex and they told me that it doesn't fall under their dangerous goods and that I can ship it regular ground.
