Default Are 408ci motors a thing of the past?

With all the LSX blocks coming out and the potential of BIG cubed motors are 408ci motors going to be a thing of the past?

Seems like a 408 isn’t anything special now

If I hadn’t already bought my pistons I’d go with a LSx block too

408s wont be phased out by any means considering the cost difference between building a normal 408 and any LSX combination. An individual can almost completely build a 408 for the cost alone of the LSX block. The 408 is still the best bang for the buck, and is capable of providing way more power than 98% or more of us are capable of using anyways. In my opinion an LSX block in anything less than a 100% race vehicle seeking ultimate stability at high rpm and extreme cylinder pressures is a waste.

I'll be running a 408 in my Camaro. That is what my budget allows and they aren't slouches.

very true, i just wonder how many LSx will be around. i already know of 3-4 cars that'll be running them.

side note: why the hell is the board messing up!

hah, I was wondering if I was the only person having that problem. Good to know that at the least I'm not alone.

BTW, I'll be running a factory iron block motor myself.

Hey,
Nothing wrong with a well built 408 and good rotating assembly. Callies crank; compstar rods; good pistons. They will make more power than you need on the street. I agree that the LSX block is for the all out race only machine and even though the block is priced competively you will have to spend a couple thousand more on the engine build alone. I know someone putting a 408 in a streetable 2002 Formula with a hair dryer on it that should make more horsepower than you could ever get to the ground on the street. 408's have their place and are like others said a good bang for the buck.
