Default Maro gurus, please chime in...

Ok, so I have been lurking around here looking for a new ride. I have narrowed it down to a few. One of which is on here I beleive(02 ss). The other two are a 96-99 Tahoe or a 94-96 Impala.

What is the upkeep like on the Camaro. I.e tune ups etc. I have never worked with one at all. My brother said his 98 Z28 was somewhat of a pain to change the plugs on. I can work on a 350 in a full size truck all day long...(owned a chevy 4x4 before going into the military).

Please fill me in before I make a purchase...

Please don't call them "camaro", that is dumb

98-02 Camaros/Firebirds aren't that difficult to work on with a little practice and knowledge on them. I can change plugs out on them in about 20 minutes now. These LS1 engines are simple to work on also.

the impalas I am looking at aren't over 75k miles. I won't touch a high mileage car. There is a NBM SS I have had my eye on. But I want to make sure its a good buy. I have to have an auto so that my wife can drive it while I am deployed. Her car is getting old(01 corolla with high miles) I have to watch what I spend so that we can get her a new car in about a year or so. Her car should last us a bit longer.

as for the person who doesnt like the terminology "camaro" ah well...I do, I'm pretty lazy! So camaro it is.

What are some common problems to look for when I am purchasing one, and what to look forward to in the future? I need to gather as much info as possible so that I can make the right choice.

So far the LS1 is a bit more, but has good gas mileage. The Impalas get pretty decent mileage as well, unless heavy modded which I won't touch. The 'hoe, well, mileage sucks. I had a K1500 before joining, but sold it.

Like I said, I have had my eye on this car since I first saw it, I believe it is a member on this site(saw it on craigslist)

the camaro is the way to go, everyone has a problem changing the number 8 spark plug the first time, then they realize you can take off the coil pack and its a breeze, ls1 all the way

I enjoy my '98 Z28 and I've had it for a little over 4 years now. It's had it's issues, nothing I would call out of the ordinary though. I've seriously thought about selling it recently, just because it's getting a stale feeling and to get into something different (C5 Z06.) I'm keeping it a bit longer though, no sense in picking up another car payment when there's nothing wrong with my car.

Ok having owned a 96 impala ss and now an 02 CAMARO, not camaro im with nineball on this, I would definitely say go with the camaro. My 96 had 46k when I bought it and held up reasonbaly fine. Like all cars there was something that would always happen to it. The biggest thing to worry about in those cars is the transmission. The tranny would always start messing up before anything else would go. Thats why you always hear about people changing those out first, or doin a T56 swap. But it got horrendous gas mileage. It was good for fitting people in though, since on the inside its the size of a space shuttle. But for overall performance, enjoyment, looks, gas mileage and anything else, I would go with a Camaro.
If youre still on the fence about this go here: impalassforum.com.
That should be able to help you with all your impala questions. I still go over there every now and again to see whats going on and still hit up quite a few of the meets. Real good guys. Dont know if thats against the rules to link another forum, didnt see a sticky on it, but if it is if a mod could change it for me. Thanks. And good hunting.

If you are that lazy and enjoy sounding dumb, you might as well just shorten it to "RO" and get rid of another syllable. Why waste the effort to say MA-RO when you can just say RO?

Typing "camaro" is one thing; I guess you save a whole two keystrokes, which is probably about 0.000001 calorie everytime you type it. At least tell me you don't go around saying "camaro."

Not sure I care what people think of me. An answer on my thread is great, criticizing my terminology is useless to me. Thanks for the advice though, maybe one day I will put it to use.

I'm trying to work out a deal with the Camaro, I just can't go look at it right now. I am still in Chicago

I appreciate it guys. I'm a little tired from a total of 12 hours of sleep in 3 days, and going to A school and doing all the BS we have to do in our A school. If you run across any of the three cars mentioned feel free to link me. I can't seem to find much...
