New Laws????
Starting July 07..
1. Carpool lane - 1st time $1068.50 starting 7/1/07 (The $271 posted
on the highway is old). Don't do it again because 2nd time is going to be
double. 3rd time triple, and 4th time license suspended.
2. Incorrect lane change - $380. Don't cross the lane on solid lines or intersections.
3. Block intersection - $485
4. Driving on the shoulder - $450
5. Cell phone use in the construction zone. - Double fine as of 07/01/07.
Cell phone use must be "hands free" while driving.
6. Passengers over 18 not in their seatbelts - both passengers and drivers get tickets .
7. Speeders can only drive 3 miles above the limit.
8. DUI = JAIL (Stays on your driving record for 10 years!)
9. As of 07/01/07 cell phone use must be "hands free" while driving.
Ticket is $285. They will be looking for this like crazy - easy money for police department.
What's next?
You can't eat in the car!
You can't change the radio station in the car!
You can't change the CD in the CD player in the car!
There are a myriad of things that can cause poor or reckless driving - driver notwithstanding. Instead of putting stipulations on those things, how about just ticket the poor driving.

An arguement such as the one you trying to use is garbage. I do not have time to say anything else on the subject. Talking on a phone while driving IS dangerous, and anyone who thinks it is not, is just ignorant, IMHO

I am in favor of the cell phone thing. I swear, everytime some ******* cuts me off or is going much slower than the flow of traffic, or just doing something stupid, they're on a freakin' cell-phone!!!
Shack, you are correct, there are many other "dangerous" things that people could be doing in their car, but talking on a cell-phone is something that is continuous and usually occupies the use of at least one hand, not to mention the driver's constant attention. Really, if your conversation is that damn important, pull over and give it your full attention. Don't endanger your life and the life of others because you can't figure out what to have for dinner.
Also, I don't know how true this is. I'd love to see some links and hard evidence!
But i do like the cell phone law, your in a car not a phone booth.
This is the case for a "passenger" in the car. The "passenger" can give warning to an impotent jerk that's being an ***.
Cell phone use should be banned for BOTH ways. Just because your on hands free you are badly distracted, I've performed this test myself, I find myself not paying as MUCH attention in EITHER respect.
you can not equal a 10 minute phone call to changing the radio station (less than a 2 second operation). Change CD's take a BIT longer, but not a 10 minute phone call.
We should make a list of what we've seen people do while driving (no gender noted
1. Putting on mascara while driving 75 MPH.
2. Shaving
3. BRUSHING your teeth
4. Eating a cup of soup that is in the cup holder
5. Reading the newspaper sprawled across the steering wheel
6. Ready a book
7. Reading Directions to a location
I'm sure there's more that I will think of later....
