Got the car home last night, but it was raining.
This morning the sun was shining...
Remember this car has a 6 speed, 3.73's out back and 315 Nittos on the rear.
1st gear is hang on time because the car is instantly up in smoke and you almost can't shift it quick enough. 7,400 happens FAST.
2nd gear is another wild ride. Car wants to blow the tires off but it starts hooking and hard!! The engine is relentless and makes power instantly all the way to 7,400. Again, you have to be ready to shift FAST because the gear is gone quickly.
3rd gear is ******* brutal. The car accelerates so quickly and breaks the tires again, but hooks up quickly. The *** end street dances a little bit, but you can steer through it. Torque is flat *** amazing throughout 3rd and it pulls like a freight train.
I then took it on the interstate west of Katy.
4th gear is so over quickly. The car pulls from 60 to 100 in a blaze. The needle on the speedometer is moving soooo fast you can't blink. People nearby instantly give me all the room I want.
in 5th gear, the car cruises nicely at highway speed (70mph) running about 2,700 rpm, but it really doesn't like 6th gear until closer to 80mph.
Because of the combo, leaving the car in gear and decelerating below 2,500 rpm is not desirable. it will buck under that rpm. It's better to drop a gear and the engine responses much quicker.
The cam is fairly big and as a result, the engine really doesn't like lugging along in the gears below 2,500 rpm. So the trick is keeping the engine above that in any gear. Idle is perfect, but it wants to be close to 1,200 rpm. It sounds awesome at idle.
I had a 346 pushing right at 480 RWHP before this and all I can say is NEW ballgame. Power cannot be compared, acceleration is WAY faster in any gear. This thing runs like it's on nitrous in every gear.
I am convinced there is no substitute for cubic inches unless you are turbocharged.
