Default Car value?

I found a 2002 WS6, M6, t-tops, all the good stuff. Only 1,850 miles on it. The dealer it is at wants over $29K for it...I want to buy from a dealer, but I am not down with paying alot more than what I think it should be. (KBB and NADA suggest around $17,500)

Anybody have experience with talking dealers down on ridiculous prices?

I understand it is sweet to find a TA with that low of mileage...but that is still a ridiculous price.

That 29k for a WS6 is crazy. I bought my 02 firehawk with options that had 1400 original miles on it and the interior still with plastic on it for $25,500 drive out. The dealer is crazy. Some dealers dont get the concept of depreciation.

Sure, but some people would complain that your $25K Firehawk was crazy priced too.

Collectors would pay $29K for this car no problem. Figure they were $35K brand new, over 5 years ago. This low mileage car is basically still brand new, collectors prefer less than 5K miles usually. Due to inflation, if that car were brand new today, it would be a $40K car with 0 miles (pretend it is a 2007 WS6).

I see low mileage collectible cars as someone else paying for the storage of the car for five years, for me.

My point is that in 2002 i bought a WS6 new off the lot for less that what they are asking now in 2007-2008. Yes, collectors prefer low miles. It depends on the collector. The 50-60 yr. old coworkers (car collectors) i work with actually purchase vehicles with under 3000 miles that they collect. If the sticker was $29k-$31k in 2002 and they want $29k in 2007. Im sorry but some bean counter missed some equation on his little math problem. Im sure thats just the starting point to haggle at, and me personally would shoot for the mid 20's when negotiating with the dealer.

No worries...after a three day silence the dealer emailed me back saying the car was sold like four months ago. Wow, way to update ads. Lame.

i still say its worth it, the car isnt made anymore and I dont think well see the trans am returning for a long time to come, it will all depend on how well the camaro does and i think it will do very very well. but teh car is rare and its basically a new car and yes a collector would pay that much, if you dont wanna pay that much for a car, get a used one with 30-60k or something.

IS it worth it?

maybe maybe not, depends on what you want to do with it IMO. buying as a collectible it may be worth it. buying it for a daily driver I would have to say no way.

It really comes down to what you want to do with the car. If it's a daily driver that you're going to put 10,000-15,000 miles a year on, then I think it's too much to pay just because it has low miles. If it's going to be sitting in your garage and only driven on nice weekends, then yes, it's worth it. It's basically brand new.

Prices for low mile F-bodies are still up there because they are hard to find and are still desireable. There are lots of 40,000-100,000 mile cars that are less than half that price, but they likely have been beat on more or modded in a way you might not have gone.

I was looking for a replacement for my stolen 2000 Trans Am last year. I wanted a low mile car (under 10,000 miles). I looked for a while and found some good deals. There was nice NBM 2002 WS6 in Kentucky that had 4000 miles. Price - $24,900. There was SOM 2002 WS6 with only 1200 miles - price - $29,000. I found local (at Texas Direct Auto) and 2001 Black WS6 with only 9,000 miles. It was also a LS1TECH member's car, so I had the opportunity to talk to the first owner. Worked out good. Just be patient and know what you want and what your willing to pay.
