Not all of them leak. I've had a few t-top cars that didn't leak either. Just saying the ROOF doesn't determine if a car leaks or not.

oh... wasn't aware of that..... never owned a hard-top. Thought it was b/c of constantly putting on, and taking off the t-tops that caused the seal to leak....

Wanna buy my Firehawk Shakelford.... 7g's lol.....

Ok, guys, what about this one? Of course, he'd say so, but he says it's been well maintained.

Just buy a freaking Honda or something. You obviously can't afford to own/fix some rundown F-Body. Geezus H Christ. For somebody with book smarts you sure do lack common sense.

Does that black '98 Z28 look run down? NO. Do most of the ones I posted look run down? No. Just because something has "high mileage" doesn't mean it's "run down." It is possible to find a solid LS1 that just happens to be up there in miles. That's what I want to do. That's the whole point of this thread.

But seems to argue a lot of things people have said. Is 128,000 miles high? To me yes that is pretty high milage, and you honestly dont know how the car was treated. You do know it has quite a few miles, and there is no guarantee the motor will hold up. Some people arent saying you cant afford the car, a lot of them just know the little "things" that add up on these cars. Yes, the car is a decent price, but one slightly major mechanical failure and your with out a car again. The parts on and LS1 and LT1 are different in price, and assume you would know that. So look at every aspect of any high milage vehicle you might buy. Also, as others have said, you could save some more money and get a much nicer car. Even $1,500-$2,000 more to spend will get you A LOT more car, with less miles. Theres a better chance of a lower milage car having less wear and tear on mechanical parts. The physical car just depends on how it was taken care of. Regardless of your dad being a mechanic, i doubt he works on LS1's very often or ya'll could build a car up. So i wouldn't expect for him to "for sure" be able to fix everything. I think you need to start looking at some cars before you trying to rush into to a certain cars anyways. You may not listen to anything i said either, but it could help.

I'm certainly listening. That's why I wanted other people's input. It just seems to me that generally speaking these engines can last 150K miles plus. Is there a risk in assuming that will hold true about a high-mileage LS1 I'm considering buying? Of course, and I know that. Fortunately, though, my Dad has helped me out in the past when something major went out, like the optispark. I know I'd be taking a risk in buying something with 120K miles. I did take a risk with the 143K mile LT1 I bought back in 2003. The optispark went out around 18XK and the engine was still going at 193K.

Well, what do you think about the '97+ Grand Cherokees? I'm still getting mixed reviews on their reliability?

I'd rather not buy another LT1. Check the carfax report I posted in #50. It's for the black '98 Z28 I posted.
