I have done it on my 3rd gens, but on the 4ths i usually see the inner fender lip actually removed so not to disrupt the body curves.

I am in Conroe just north of you, i have a cutting wheel and a air compressor, so id let you take a shot at it, but i have not cut the lips out of one myself so i would have to say i dont feel comfortable doing it on somone elses car. I am good at theese things but when somone elses ride is at stake i am only willing to do things of this nature when i have done them before.

well if you know anyone with a fender roller, you're all set. although i've heard of some people taking a sledge to the fenders before...that's gotta be nerve-wrecking!

I got mine done by a friend in austin with a fender roller, seemed pretty simple, heat gun and fender roller. it helped me a ton with my nittos (17x11 ZR1s with 315s in the rear), they would always scrape, but now I have VERY few problems with scraping.

one thing though when you get it done...it's pretty much impossible NOT to crack the paint in those areas, there's always going to be just a wee bit of chipping from what I've seen, but it's not that noticeable unless you're less than a foot away from the fender or something. that's just my experience with it though.

someone gave me some input on the subject- Tinkrd.

Baseball bat and straight edge razer.....

cut a line to prevent cracking and spidering of the paint. ...... use the bat and tire to roll the fender while the car is rolling .... very slowly... helps to heat the fender first with a heat gun on the inside.

Yea, the **** i seen was cut out due to not wanting to crack fenders and have a slight bulge in the fender in some cases. There should be no side effects at all, you will however want to use some kind of paint/sealer to cover the bare metal after the removal of the inner lip.

Look before you go cutting the inner lip I didn't have to do it on either one of my cars! I used Tony's (Nine *****) Fender roller and heat gun worked great and takes I would guess about a fraction of the time you are going to spend cutting that lip off. But you can do it if you want to. Good luck

Well come look at my car and see if you see any of that. You can cut if you want, but you are taking strenght out of that area and leaving another edge to catch a tire or something else. If you get carried away with a hammer it can warp the fender well area slightly, but because it is low it is very hard to see. With a fender roller it is a lot easier and you don't end up with any distortion if you take your time and do it slowly I also helped CRAGAR with his so he can tell you that it looks good and works great. Talk to you guys later.

I'm pretty sure the quarter panel is welded to the inner fender all along the arch of the fender that you will be trying to cut. It's two pieces of metal welded together. I don't think cutting it is the wisest choice. Just roll it and be done with it. All you are mainly trying to do is roll the edge up so it doesn't slice the side of the tire.

I alsoI had 17x11 with 315's on them and they didn't rub the fender even when it wasn't rolled. I had to roll them because my 335's rub when there is a passenger and I'm going up a steep incline.

yeah there are spot welds that would be cut off if you cut the lip off and that would allow water to get inside the fender and would also make it less stable

i have 17x10.5 with 315s and i only have problems on the passenger side when i go around a left turn too fast. only cut the tire about 1/16 of an inch. i might eventually do a small fender roll, but i have access to a free roller.

Do a Google search for rollyourfender and you should get a site of a guy in Dallas that rents them out. Site has some really good before and after pics along with some explanations.

Like Inspector12 said, it's really easy to do, and if you take the time to do it right, you shouldn't have any problems.

I have a fender roller that I used on my car and the results were great. I've done several cars in the area and in some cases the paint did crack. I can't say why on most cars I've done it hasn't but on two cars it's happened. I really feel it's the amount that the fenders were rolled, I rolled mine just enough where the tires wouldn't rub and others the person wanted the fenders rolled further for insurance. In two of those cases the paint cracked. If it were me I would rent a fender roller and roll the fenders, it's easy

are you talking about my old red z28? I think the paint started to crack bc the paint on the drivers side fender was still "newish". I ended up getting them rolled again later down the road. At maximum altitude, they cut slits all along the fender and then rolled it. They might have just cut it and then hammered it up. Not sure. But it worked good.
