Default 05 Impala SS: Modify or Leave Stock?

My wife is not digging the idea of me making a 12-13 second ride out of the 05 Impala SS we just picked up yesterday for our family car. I love how it looks, drives, feels, etc. but it just seems plain. I'd love to put stainless steel badging on the doors and of course do the mods to make it run 12's or at least 13's. The Vette already runs 11's - should I just leave well enough alone on the Impala?

If you already had a modified car, but saw the potential in your family car, what would you want to do?

There is no need to make the family ride faster. That will only lead to problems with the car and you don't want your wife and kids to go through that. Keep it stock it's plenty fast for a family car. Just my .02

leave it alone. fwd cars have enough probs. last thing you wanna be doing is replacing cv joints and bearing hubs.

leave it alone. Front wheel drive cars are fragile enough as-is, keep it reliable.

few basic bolt ons and a good computer tune would be great for the family
car. Just don't go overboard. I like a tastefully modded daily driver..........

yeah - if i did, it would only be like a pulley change, cold air, pcm, 3" downpipe etc. They said things like this could get me into the 13's which is what would make me happy. I don't want to go heads/cam because that would affect drivability.

That's the L67 engine in there. You could probably get away with a 3.4" pulley with cold air, a 3" downpipe, and a reprogramming, but even then you'll need to scan often. Headers or even just ported manifolds would make a pulley drop even safer. Take it from my experience, those few mods is probably all you should ever do (I used to have almost 400whp, USED to). Those MIGHT get you high 13's, most likely low 14's, but at the same time that 4t65e hd is a pos. Much more is asking for an input shaft to go. My GTP is so picky about detonation it has taken all the fun out of it. Kinda like that girlfriend who always talks about wanting to get it on but when it comes down to it won't.

Whatever way you decide to go have fun with it. There is a great group of w/h-body guys who meet every month here in Tomball and we always like to have new guys show up.

Do some light mods. A pulley, CAI, exhaust and maybe a reprogrammed PCM. That should be good enough. Appearance mods are always good and you will like the GMPP handling kit as a nice upgrade. Little mods will make the car a nice daily driver/family car.
