Texas Mile MPH Results?
#82
Any sense in lower gears then?
When I went 183mph, I was turning 6800 rpm in 5th gear. I have 3.73 gears in back. I can't remember what I was turning at the 3/4 mile mark but it was probably 6400-6500 rpm. That last 1/4 mile goes by in about 5 seconds so you don't gain a lot of rpm in 5th gear (unless you're Tommy Banh).

Mathematically speaking, a lower gear in back that'd get you 6800RPM in 6th gear wouldn't be any different - BUT, do you think there'd have been any mph gains from the kinetic energy of that torque mutiplication having come sooner in the run? Or just too much wind resistance?
Ideally, you want to run high gear in 4th because 1 to 1 is the most effecient and runs the coolest. This is critical in Open Road Racing when long highway blasts can roast a tranny, but for a standing mile, you can get away with more abuse for short periods of time. I try to gear my car to be at or slightly above my power peak at the end of the mile (just like the 1/4 mile).

sorry, but I've been street racing and highway racing in Houston since 3rd gens were brand new, and I've never seen 3rd gens "own" any sort of racing category. They were smacked around by 5.0 Mustangs, then by LT1 f-bodies, Supras, Vettes, Vipers, etc....
I applaud your support of the 3rd gen, but they really never earned a lot of respect, and still do not.

Yup it is still around. He bought a HANS from me. His name is Chris. I remember going to the street races in Dallas and Denton and he would be out there. That was 10 years ago I guess. Back in the day it had a 383 and now I think it has a 408. It looks the same as it did only he put a wind on the back to help staighten it out.

If they go motor on motor the vettes are faster.
Don't worry when I finish the camaro I will be 200+mph. Can't let INTMID8 have all the fun in the f-body class.

yea think vipers could hold their own motor to motor...and should way outpower vettes with 2 more cylinders
tiago i saw your build....you should be able to crank it till the turbos wont go anymore...love to see what kinda power you make and if you ever have gasket issues...
i cant imagine the fact that doing 180+ in my camaro...ive done 165-170 and i ddnt like it
standing mile comes more in aerodynamics...power level...and revs/rear gearing? correct?
...your not goana pull in 6th so youve gota plan in finishing in 5th havent seen any auto guys but id imagine we have a great overdrive gearing with a lockup converter it would be good....just hate these guys claiming they own the world
