I've been to the Texas Mile 4 times. The only 3rd Gen I've seen was Travis Mark's 92 Camaro with an LS1 in it. It runs around 165mph. So in my case, I haven't seen any 3rd gens owning the standing mile. Maybe at other venues. In Texas, it's mostly Vettes and Vipers with a handfull of exotics thrown in.

What were some of the bikes running? A turbo 'Busa is my dream bike but no way in hell I'd run 200+ on one.

First of all I never said a mustang could do anything, but as you have just went out of your way to prove ANYTHING can go fast with enough money. Even those super nice 3rd gens.

There used to be alot of 3rd gens that participated in stuff like that here in Texas and Arizona, there was a really nice yellow car from Austin and a white one from Dallas that did the one where you run for 39ish miles,
I think they averaged 189ish, and were in the all out class,
There was a great article in car craft or something about it back in 1998 or 1999,

When I went 183mph, I was turning 6800 rpm in 5th gear. I have 3.73 gears in back. I can't remember what I was turning at the 3/4 mile mark but it was probably 6400-6500 rpm. That last 1/4 mile goes by in about 5 seconds so you don't gain a lot of rpm in 5th gear (unless you're Tommy Banh).

sorry, but I've been street racing and highway racing in Houston since 3rd gens were brand new, and I've never seen 3rd gens "own" any sort of racing category. They were smacked around by 5.0 Mustangs, then by LT1 f-bodies, Supras, Vettes, Vipers, etc....

I applaud your support of the 3rd gen, but they really never earned a lot of respect, and still do not.

Yes, that's Tommy's car.

Look at that huge 100mm turbo and 5" down pipe.
