From my understanding, when they tune using LS1 edit they lock you out from using HP Tuners. That is what I gathered from my experience, for the record.

Respectfully,

My car was orginally tuned by Chuck at HPE. I recently bought HP Tuners and tuned the car without any issues.

Hope this clears things up.

I think it depends on what mods you have done when it gets tuned. If you have say a lid and exhaust I bet most will lock it, just so you can't copy the tune to your buddy's car. Now if you have a **** load of mods they probably wont lock it since there are not as many cars with your same set up.

No shop should ever lock your tune if they know wtf their doing in the first place. You paid for the tune. It belongs to you. Neither of you can control when/where your car is going to need tuning service again. Hence leave it unlocked. If someone is locking them go elsewhere. Besides locking for light mods is silly since the HP Tuner tune resiprosity (upload/donwload site for Hp Tuner customers) has a ton of light modded tunes to copy among other highly modified vehicles...I would only copy it to see if the tuner knows wtf their doing. By the way...don't simply copy ANYONES tune directly to your car without going over it first...you'll regret it!

Mine was locked and even the dealer could not re-flash it. I don't know what others think , but that is WRONG for any reason. What if the tuner's company closes up? What if you sold your car to someone out of state?

Yep. I would never go to a tuner who is going to attempt to "lock" my PCM. I paid for the tune, therefore it's MY tune. And... it's my F'ing car.

I have a car that was tuned by a well known tuner... who is also well known for "locking" the PCM. I bought the car with the tune already in it and it seems to be a very good/accurate tune. However, that is a factor that makes me reluctant to make any significant changes to the car's setup. I have heard of a couple tuners who claim to be able to defeat this "locking", but have not had a need to go to them and see if they can actually do it.

I just want to make it clear that I wasnt accusing LG of doing this, I simply wanted to know if they did. Thanks Yall and I completly agree that the tune is yours if you pay for it......Period

Mine was tuned and locked using edit before I bought the car. It was later tuned with HPT with no problems.

That's usually the case. The "lock" feature of LS1 edit only prevents other LS1 edit users to modify the PCM, HPT doesn't give a rats ***.

I had the same concerns before buying HPT. I was first tuned at MTI (codes etc) then "tuned" at HPE for my cam, both using LS1 edit. I've now got HPT and it does it no problem. I've probably tuned 4-5 other cars too and never had any problems.
