I hate large auto payments. I have never had a payment higher than $400 a month. I always put enough down to keep my payments low or pay the car off. Paid for vehicles are REALLY nice to have.

I plan on picking up a 2006 model when I graduate for $50-55k. Payments shouldn't be that bad, and I'll probably put $10k down on it.

Plug some numbers into that.

Cash is King... and by my logic, i would never pay 1,000 per month for a DEPRECIATING asset. I know a little bit about financing and managing what money i do have ,mijo, i have been at it for a while.
By all means, do whatever you want with the money you work hard to earn, but come back and talk to me ten years from now when your greatest "asset" is the house you live in.
When in all actuality a house, unless it is paid off is in fact not an asset but a liability. If you dont understand the garbage i am spewing, you probably dont know much about money management.

Let's say someone can afford to pay CASH for an '08 C6 Z06. Maybe they want to put 25% down and save the rest instead of blowing $70k on a "DEPRECIATING asset."
Works both ways.

This question is just like the old, "what cam should I get" question. There are so many different factors to consider that we are all just taking a stab in the dark.
I have some friends that are husband and wife, and they are both dentist. Conservatively, they make $15K a month EACH........everytime we go out, they have to check their bank account to make sure they don't over spend.
With that being said, only you know what your spending habits are.
Best of luck!
