there was a thread about this a while back but I could not find it. I am looking for the laws about sales tax and auto repairs.
If i remember correctly, you no not have to pay sales tax on auto repairs (parts or labor).

You do not have to tax the labor if it is an OEM replacement part!

Why you asking? Are you being charged tax for these when you think you shouldn't?

Unless you are tax exempt you have to pay taxes on all parts that were replaced. Labor is only taxed on services that are performed on the car that was not factory equiped with such items. Such as you want a sunroof installed on a car that was not equiped with one from the factory.

Yeah, you definetly have to pay sales tax on parts, but not labor.

If its performance part installation labor its taxed. If its OEM replacement parts its not taxed. Argue all you want, its in the Texas Tax Law books.
