Default WTB: LS6 or other Aftermarket cam.

I need to get a cam I can run with stock springs on a stockish motor. All i have really is headers but I am just looking for something like a good LS6 cam or any cam i can use basically without putting too much load on the stock springs. Reason is my engine when trying to start, wants to back fire and pop before starting and I think the chain may be worn or jumped but replacing the cam would give me reason to pull the front cover to check everything out, unless someone thinks thats normal? When running it sounds fine. Could be just a tuning issue, maybe timing in the PCM. thanks

even with LS6 cam, you would need new springs

so are lt1 springs...its not that they arent strong enough for a cam opening and closeing the valves fast...and/or to keep up with high rpm...and higher lift numbers...they just arent made for it

had a huge cam on my LT1 stock springs, never broke a spring. I eventually upgraded with a bigger cam and springs.

Mike try and get a 04 Z06 cam if you can. Also you can get a set of LS2 springs on ebay for around $40-$50. Or spend about $100 on the board for Comp 918's and call it a day.

You got lucky. All it takes is one spring to break and your engine is toast. IMO $50-60 for new LS6 springs from SDPC is cheap insurance. Better yet, more insurance w/Patriot gold duals w/Ti retainers and new seals for ~$250 shipped.
