I got on in october 2011 at Intercontinental Terminals Company gained some experience loading railcars ships barges and trucks and left after exactly one year to Carpenter chemical. Terminal/loading is the best way to start from the bottom imo... and at 23 the moneys good and the works easy.

All the refineries and chemical manufacturers pay about the same at top out. Around upper 30's to lower 40's. I took the cert in 2007 and while I tried the main ones I'm glad I got on with a pipeline. I know I'll never make as much as the operators at say Lyondell or Exxon because they can get tons of OT but I'll never have to wear a hard hat, uniforms (nomex f that), work in dangerous units or mess with nasty chemicals, mess with rail cars, tanker trucks or barges/ships. All we have is pumps and tanks.

Good luck and there's a ton of baby boomers retiring. So you'll get on sooner or later.

Main reason I went into the power generation side with natural gas. To stay away from the harsh processes.

somthing blew at air liquide this past weeknd in laporte SUPER LOUD explosion. i believe someone was life flighted and im not sure of the guys condition. But without a doubt being in a place with high heat, high pressure terrible chemicals or anything of that nature is what the high pay is all about... risk.

Then why waste everyones time? There are folks out there who are legitimately trying to be operators and you are wasting a spot without even knowing if you want to do it or not. Retarded.

They contacted me asking if I wanted another interview, I never reapplied. I'm taking it if I get it that's for sure.

I'm working towards a petroleum engineering degree, didn't see the point in taking them for PTEC as it isn't required for a job though I know it's a huge plus.

I wish everyone well on their interviews. I recommend everyone research the interview questions before hand, pretty much dead on.

What's the starting pay? I've heard anywhere from $22 to $28 an hour.

You make no sense. Where can you research the questions they will ask you during your interview?

I tested this morning for lyondell bayport and I have a 37year veteran referal so hopefully I have an edge.
LUCKY! Channelview location would be sweet, I live pretty close. Nick did you recently graduate? I had trouble shooting with a guy named nick a couple semesters ago. I remember seeing him drive a good looking camaro that sounded pretty healthy.

Taking basics at San jac. Saving up to go to A&M.

Enjoyed the interview. Cobra test was cake but the last one will give you a run for your money. There was this fat guy there that fell asleep through the whole process, nobody could believe it. Had to listen to him snore during the whole process.
