i see it as an unloaded weapon is like a club
and a bullet without a gun is a mean firecracker
just keep them together with a gun lock

nah he's never digging thru stuff but if i get out of the car for a sec and the gun's in the console..... that could potentially be a really bad thing. he's 8 tho and i've shown him the gun, explained the dangers to him and so forth and he knows not to touch it but at his age, if it's in the car, it might be overwhelmingly tempting for him to play with it. the .40 in the house is locked up so he can't get it and the .38 is underneath the backseat and he doesn't even know it's there

I'd either take him or the gun out of the car with me in that situation, no matter what. Even if your carrying illegally, at least your son isn't alone with a gun.
And i see the point about a gun lock while in the house, but in your vehicle, it kinda defeats the purpose of having the gun with you in the first place. If someone comes at you from your blind spot at a stop sign and puts a gun in your face, you're SOL.

Basically, it is very unlikely to be prosecuted under the new law because the burden of proof is on the state. So it is still a little gray, but it is generally agreed that you can carry in your vehicle.

The smartest thing to do would be for your friend to take the CHL class and research the laws. Without a CHL, there is no legal way to carry outside your vehicle. A CHL is not very expensive and there is no question whether or not it is legal.

A CHL is actually pretty cheap, look for a gunclub hosting the class complete. As far as packing heat without a CHL in you car based on the latest law change, think again. As it is technically legal to carry if "traveling", and the leo can't prove you are not, it is likely you will get a free ride downtown to sort it out. You can beat the rap, but you won't beat the ride. Not worth the hassle when a CHL is so easy to get.
