Default Best way to drive across Texas?

So I'll be going home for spring break this coming Thursday. I'll be driving from Lubbock to Houston and I was wondering what the best route is. Per Google maps, just about every route is the same distance and takes equally as long (A little over 9 hours, but that's driving the speed limit ).

Last time driving up to Lubbock from Houston, I took I-10 to San Antonio and then through a series of smaller roads up to Lubbock. I want to try something new.

Driving through DFW and then zipping down on I-45 seems too boring. I could be wrong though.

So how should I do it? DFW and I-45 the sumbish? Through Austin? Temple? Waco? Or San Antonio again?

Well when I went to Lubbock I just took a series of smaller roads, similar to you described. But I live in SA so...I dunno. What are the distances of going Dallas to 45?

You should just fly.. Haha

Na, I don't know what to tell you man. I hate driving long distances in my T/A. Especially since I dont have cruise control. The drive from where I live to Houston was kinda boring. It's usually like a 3.5 hour drive, but I cut it down to 2 hours and 15 minutes.. Thanks to my LS1!

I'd recommend just going through SA or dallas. I've had friends do both to get to lbk. Usually pretty close to the same distance/time.

Either way you look at it, the drive sucks. The SA/Lbk trip might be worse, just bc you have no phone service for the majority of it. The dallas trip isnt quite as bad. Have you tried driving to dallas going the "northern route". i.e. not taking i20?

shoot Ive travelled that many time from San Antonio to Dumas tho. its all about the same, you can take 84 to post-snyder-sweetwater then to 283or183 to austin then to houston. or 87 to Big Springs to San Angelo,Eden south to Juntion to I-10 to S.A then to houston. hope you have XM or Sirius radio cuz like said above no reception and lots of deer at night. Of course what slows a person down is all those dang small towns with barney fife waiting for some excitement.

Haha, I personally think Camaros blow for long distances. No headrest, no cruise control (mine broke) and having to turn up the stereo really loud thanks to the road noise. Don't bother me too much though.

North route? Isn't that longer? Through Denton?

I might just go to DFW and I-45 it now. How are the smokeys on that route?

ya I used to live in North Dallas/Plano(wasnt thinking about the longer trip to houston). It was faster if you were going to just ~north dallas.

You got it! I've been going that route for years. Me and 2 of my older brothers 1995-2004. Good times.

I'll do 36 til I hit I-10 since I'm going to Sugar Land. Is hwy 36 fast?

that is the best way..... you can fly down some of those central texas roads and the shortest distance between 2 pts is a straight line.
