Where should Dad invest his money?

Where should Dad invest his money? He had his money invested in a couple of CDs at his credit union, but the interest rate will only be 3% now. He has around 50K to play with. Where can he invest relatively low-risk for 5-8%?

^ or people who are good with search engines. Countrywide FSB 4% CD. Looks pretty safe to me. It ain't 5-8 but it's not 3 either.

How long does he plan to invest it? If he plans to invest it for a long time right now is a good time to buy some land. Land is one of the few assets that does not depreciate overtime. Now that the fed just decreased interest rates again, now definitely isn't a bad time.

and everyone's situation is different, I've seen 1000+ financial threads on forums, only one has ever been a good thread and it went 300+ pages.
