What are the consequences of missing jury duty?

Most judges take jury duty tardiness and abseteeism seriously. A bench warrant and $250 fine is typical. I wouldn't just "not show up".
Employers are supposed to excuse an employee for jury duty. While they don't have to, most pay without docking salary.
There are ways to get out of it. But I suggest you go and serve at least once to see how the process and system works. I've been called several times and sat on one trial ... a rape case. It was an experience I'll never forget.

$6 the first day, $40 every day thereafter should you get picked. I made $86 a couple years ago from the City of Dallas.
And usually you have to call/send the jury notice in with the excuse WAY before you are supposed to go. You cant just come up with a reason the day of and decide not to go. Judges dont like that.

Go to the website on the Summons. If in Houston, go to www.hcdistrictclerk.com You then enter in you HC Number or Driver's License Number. You can then change the date you want to serve. I was suppose to serve in December. I moved it to April 16th. On the day before, I will log back in and change it again...this time to June. You can change it twice in a 6 month period...up to 6 months. You can do the lost in the mail once. I did, then I got another Summons with Failure to appear could result in Fines/Jail time. So, the easiest thing to do is just put it off for the 6 months, or just go in and do it. Hope that helped.
