you have to get fired or layed off and you have to show that your actively searching/applying for new jobs also the amount you get is based on how much income you were getting from your job

Texas Workforce Commission sucks *****. They are def in favor of the employee and not the employer. The only way you can find out if you qualify is if you apply. They have conditons of approving or denying you. One condition is how fast your employer responds. If they deny you, just dispute it. Honestly even if you quit you have a pretty good chance of winning.

nope.. If you quit you are not eligible for unemployment benefits.
Now if your job or spouse was relocating and as a result you had to resign, then you might receive consideration. If your resignation letter was ambiguous then you can argue your case and see what the judge says.. When i have employees quit i always ask them to write out a resignation letter and our HR department follows up with them as to why they quit.. So they're pretty much fucked.
Good luck though..

If you don't like your job, find another one while working there, put in your 2 weeks notice & move on to a better job. No need to get into lazy patterns of living off the system. If you are young & able, you shouldn't even be thinking of doing this. It's much better to get yourself into good habits like putting in your notice. You never know when you may need to come back to a place in times of hardship or if someone you worked with moves on to a better career & remembers you had good ethics....it could lead to referrals that help you into a better job.

My dad just lost his job, along with several others. The owner just freaked out one day and fired a group, well pretty much the whole staff.
Its pretty simple, and its set up rather well.
Its saving us right now, my dad was making around 35 an hour and suddenly the income stopped. I think they are figuring his pay at $28 an hour, and thats what he is drawing at 40 hours a week.
This program saved us. He hasn't had trouble finding a job, but with this he is able to really search for and find the one he wants. Hell, I was scared I was gonna have to stop going to school for awhile and work full time.
