The cost of living in England is PALE in comparison to the United States.
In fact, I belive London was #2 only to Hong Kong on the most expensive city in the world to live in.
Wages in England do NOT = the cost of living, in fact, 50% of the country is on income support. Damn socialistic economies!

I was in a drunken debate this weekend with some liberals. These people were hardcore left... Socialist it seemed. Anyways, they were saying that they hoped gas prices kept going up so that we were forced to develop a public transportation system like Europe.
We should go back to the Repulbic of Tejas, refine the gas, distribute it through Texas for cheap, and make the profit by ripping off California, New England etc. Doesnt Texas have the 6th largest economy or something? Now I am dreaming....

A buddy of mine was out looking at bikes this weeklend and the sales man told him that the bike sales had gone up by like 15% in the past month. Also I was at the dealer ship trying to trade in my diesel on a denali and they told me that the value of the diesel trucks had dropped $5k in that past month.

The profit margin on refined gasoline is like 8-10%. That margin is lower than many other products we buy on a regular basis.
And I'm not talking about the service station owners, their margin is much less... sometimes 5-7 cents on the gallon.
The oil companies are operating at that 8-10% margin and we squawk like they have a 50% profit margin.
There's a sea of oil under Alaska. We'll never see it as long as extreme liberals/tree huggers continue to exert the amount of influence that they currently do.

Exactly. The government wants to penalize the companies for being good at their jobs.
Crude oil prices account for more than 75% of the price of gas. Up from 50% a few years ago.
Refining operations are not where the money is. The money is in drilling and pumping. BAsically the oil companhies that have their own drilling and production capabilities are making money, the ones that only refine the product are not doing nearly as well (Look up Valero's profits)

WRONG, I have family that live in Europe. It is extremely expensive over there. Eating McDonald's with the family, plan on spending 50 bucks. The waitress and waiters get paid 15 an hour over there. We spent over 400 dollars at the sushi restaurant when we usually spend 100 over here. I don't know about England though.
You guys bitching about people bitching, just wait until we have a natural disaster. Hurricane season. Once that Hurricane comes into the Gulf, you're the one going to be bitching with the few dollar more a gallon than it already is.

Yup. This is why my Z71 Silverado (13MPG average) and my Vette are parked most of the time while I run around in my Honda daily driver.
But, hell, it cost me $53 to fill up the Honda today. Truck costs over $80. Vette is around $65 (premium), and they all get about the same range.
All of my family on the wife's side is in the oil business, so you won't hear complaints from me.

The gas prices arent related to a shortage of oil, so much as its related to Greedy Saudi's (OPEC), Our rapidly deflating value for the dollar, and our lack of refineries, and the damage that has been done to what few ones there are.
If you figure inflation into the cost of gas back through the years, at modern prices, gas hasn't gone up by much since the 40's. Its just the **** state of our economy that makes it seem like its so high.
