Plant Operators... simple question for you...
I got an interview with Oxy tomorrow, and they told me there would be a math and reading test... I am sure I will do completely fine, but I want to know exactly what kind of math it is so that I can freshen up if necessary. Is it just fundamental math, or is there anything specific I should look out for? I just really want this job so I just want to make sure everything goes well.
I understand that all plants arent going to be doing the same stuff in their interviews, but I know alot of plants have these tests.
Any help would be appreciated.. cant wait to be making some decent money.

Just basic math, they will likely give you the formulas for figuring horsepower, flows, etc. These days, you just let the computer do it and you verify. Always err on the side of safety, the companies are preaching that every day. (Rightfully so!)
Oh...and GOOD LUCK!

I was an operator for a natural gas compressor station years ago in Southwest Kansas. That was back when we were owned by Enron.
Now I am in Florida as a Mechanical Specialist over a fleet of 7,000 horsepower gas fired turbines. I love it.
Bottom line, if you are in the energy business, it is fairly stable. No matter the economy, people want fuel to generate electricity, heat, etc.
And, you can set your own goals on how far you want to move up!

So the interview went well, and I have good reason to believe I will be getting a call back. The math and reading test was ridiculously easy, and I wasted my time studying for that test. The only thing that sucks is the dupont schedule.
I have been working for NASA in cube world since I was 16, and can no longer take it. I love my weekends planking houses, and working outside so that I can get away from the office.
Thanks for the help guys.

The math on these plant tests is usually math at the 7th grade level at most. Basically if you can count, do addition, subtraction, multiply, divide and do fractions/decimals you are good.
When you get into operations you will learn to love the shift work. Being off during the week when everyone else is working is great. Also, having more than 2 days off per week is nice too. Dupont = 14 days a month off.
I work for Exxonmobil. We work 4 on 4 off and I love it.
Good luck.
