Easy solution to the door ding problem:
Drive a plastic Saturn to work.
Myself? I park way out in the deepest darkest depths of the lot, where only people who respect their cars park. That or people who enjoy walking.
P.S. Yeah, it's not wise to double-park in a crowded location in southern California. Lots of ... shall we say, "uninformed" individuals here.
