If yours is a 2005, that only means one of two things:
1. You aren't driving it that hard, or you aren't shifting it that hard. Or perhaps you only roll-race.
2. You do drive it hard, and will learn an expensive lesson soon.
But don't take my word for it, or the 100s of other 2005 C6 rearend busters

Morbid, you made it seem as if you knew for certain. So I could have said it was a '06 and you would have gone with it.
DeerHunter_Z28, if you saw me on 35 Saturday afternoon, I was probably on my way home from work. I've been working Saturdays (6:00 am to 2:30 pm) for the past month. Thanks.
Nine Ball, I see. I was thinking of paint matching those silver pieces to the outside of the car. What do you think? So what would I upgrade in the rear end to be worry free? I don't plan on drag racing it.
-Ross-, hrmm, I just looked at didn't see my name.

About 15 cars down.

P.S.
I'd leave the silver pieces alone.

That is an awesome color for a Vette. White looks amazing too but the orange is just down right sexy.
I hope to eventually get into a Z06. Maybe by the time I can afford them I can get an 09.

You can pay for a C5 rear swap into the C6. You apparently cannot swap the later C6 Rear (2006 and later) into a C6 without a lot of work. You can call DTE or some of the shops to verify this. But basically the 2005 is an orphan that is hard to work with.

I didn't have any plans/intentions on messing with the rear end. I've even been suggested I upgrade the clutch too. The car is completely stock other than full exhaust.
So you're saying the easiest thing to do would be a C5 rear swap and that the newer ('06+) is extremely too much work to be worth it. Hrmmm.... I was hoping there was a part or two that needed to be upgraded for it to be strong, but obviously that's not the case.
So is a C5 swap a lot of work? I would do the work myself, I would just have to locate a C5 rear.

In addition there were 5 running changes of the 2005 differential during that model year alone that DTE documented in building them.
DTE reports that they have seen the case design change once, the left output shaft design changed once, the right output shaft design changed once, the rear cover sealing design changed once and the clutch pack disc count, including the Belleville pre-load washer change design once- All within the 2005 model year, but there was only two part number changes from it's inception to cover all of these.
There are also some 2006 early run cars which had upgraded 2006 parts in a 2005 case, but these were very early on cars. The two big items is the pinion support and the separate spider/short shaft combo.
The best bet is to call DTE to find out wha they can do for you currently it may require physical inpsection of the unit to see if you havce any options. But at this point I do not beleive you can upgrade the rear to anything other than a C5 rear.
