Default HDMI vs Composite cables?

Ok i have an older sony tv 50" LCD rear projection and it has 2 HD outputs/inputs. One is the DVI and the other is composite (the 3 cables blue, green, yellow/red). Now i also have a Ps3 as well along with a HD sattelite box. Its hooked up now to the HD box with a DVI cord then has an DVI----HDMI adapter on it so it can plug into the box.

Now i dont like unhooking and hooking it back to the Box when i want to play PS3. What i was wondering is if i will notice any difference if i use the Composite cables for the sat box or for the PS3 and then use the DVI---HDMI cable for the other?

I will prob prefer usuing the DVI--HDMI for the PS3 and use the composite for the HD BOX. My tv also is only 1080i

I should not notice a diff at all correct?

What you are referring to are component cables, composite are the yellow, red and white cables. And under most circumstances no, you will not notice a difference. You will want to do like you said, use the component cables for your satellite box and the DVI/HDMI cable for the ps3. The satellite box would actually prefer the component cables so there wont be any handshake issues (analog to digital or vice versa).

Correct. Satellite only puts out 1080I at highest (some are doing 1080P in Video on Demand) but if your tv only has a DVI cable input then your TV is not 1080P compatible. you will not notice a difference in component or your DVI input, since they are both 1080I highest resolution.

I have tried both on the Xbox 360 and still have yet to notice a difference. So I would say no there is no difference.

HDMI is nice cause it bundles the audio so you have one cord instead of 4

You say it has 1080P, are you talking the TV, Sat or PS3? You also said a LCD rear projection, did you mean a LCD or a CRT rear projection? just trying to get some info. Tv's that are 1080P HAVE to have a HDMI or VGA (computer) input (one or the other, sometimes both). a DVI will only support 1080I even with a HDMI to DVI converter due to "handshake" and sync issues.

i said it was 1080i. Never said it was 1080p. It is a LCD rear projection. here is the model #

KF-50WE620 and here is the manual for it. http://www.docs.sony.com/release/KF50WE620.pdf

Go to page 26 to see back of my TV.

edit: LCD Projection

Nobody said u would see a difference. Fact is you can run whatever the f u want and wont notice a difference on your tv. Only way you will see i difference between hdmi and component is if u had a big *** plasma/lcd/dlp.

My recommendation is get a new 1080P TV, since your used to rear projection, get a Samsung DLP. Cheap, great picture quality, good features.

My dad gave me this TV cause the optical block went out. He didnt feel like messing with customer service so i did and got it fixed for free.

Who wouldnt take a sony 50" LCD projection HDTV for free? He upgraded to one of the new sony's that just came out.

Im happy with the TV and the HD looks good as well.

That's incorrect, but with your stating "under most circumstances" one should give you the benefit of the doubt. There is a noticeable difference between composite to component and from component to HDMI, even with 720p or 1080i and especially with 1080p.
