CARMAX vs. Selling Private Party???
Hey guys,
I need to move my gf's 2006 Beetle, and well, it is harder than I expected. We want to sell it before she accumulates more mileage, etc...
Has anyone ever sold their car (fairly new model) at carmax? Compared to KBB and NADA values, about how much will they give you on a clean, shiny, godo running car? Are they good about giving you Tradi-in value, or can dthey give you a little higher at times?
I need to move thi scar this week, and get her a Z71 Tahoe at a dealer, or PP, but we got to get out from underneath her origianl Beetle note.
Thanks Guys.

Trade-in on my last truck (per KBB) was around $13,750. Carmax offered me $11,250. I sold it privately for $15,500.
Your Beetle probably gets good mileage, so they won't try to play the, "Well gas prices are really high now." card quite as much as they do with truck owners.

Carmax won't give you **** for your vehicle. I wouldn't take it to them unless you are very desperate and won't be upside down on your loan.
I sold my 2000 Toyota Celica GTS to them for $7,000 a year ago that had 80k miles and some body damage. I need to get rid of it quick though to get money for my LE Camaro that I was buying.

Did not check with Carmax upon my 07 gmc Sierra Duramax 2500 but I did manage to get 44k for it selling it outright. I did sell my 03 GMC Sierra ext cab 5.3L to carmax and they gave me 13.5k. It had 43k miles on it and then they listed it for 16k and it sold the first week it was listed. I should have sold it myself but found a great deal on a 07 Escalade and needed the 13.5k down on it..
I would sell it outright IMHO...

put it on ebay for the payoff amount, or near, and then try to start fresh with new payments. Auto loan rates came down a little bit last time I checked, get dad to get you setup with Dawn at Texas Capital Bank.

Go carmax if you don't want the hassle and can take a hit on the price. If you have a little time it doesn't hurt tryin to post up on ebay/craigslist/autotrader/sign in the window.
good luck
